"Are you sure he wants me?" I ask Miss Heliotrope, unsure is she had read the letter right. There is no way that my Uncle actually agreed to letting me live with him,
"Yes Miss Merryweather, I am certain" she grins widely, "Go pack your bags, love, we'll be leavening for Moonacre in the morning" she adds, grin never faulting.
I rush up the cold marble steps up into my bedroom, I have never really liked my bedroom. It's way to big for comfort, I always feel like there is to many places for intruders to hide, I shutter at the thought.
I pull at my bag and start to stuff it full with my clothes and loved possession. I come across the book that my father left and sigh, this is all the restraint he ha, but why? what's so special about this book? my father wads never one for novels and this could have got him a good amount of money. I open the first page and admire the neat hand writing and beautiful portrait of a graceful looking woman standing on a cliff.
- A woman of the de Noir clan is so pure of heart that nature gifts her with a set of powerful magical moon pearls, and she comes to be known as the Moon Princess. The two families unite to celebrate her wedding to Sir Wrolf Merryweather, and exchange two beautiful animals as gifts: her father, Sir William offers a rare black lion to the bridegroom, and Sir Wrolf bestows a white unicorn from the ocean to his bride.
In return, the Moon Princess decides to share the moon pearls with both families. But the power of the pearls incites greed in her father and fiancee, and the two begin to fight over them. Angered and hurt by their selfish desires, the Moon Princess curses the land. If another Moon Princess does not arrive to reconcile the families and return the pearls to the ocean within five-thousand moons time, Moonacre valley will be plunged into eternal darkness. From that day on, the Merryweathers and de Noirs despised and blamed each other for the loss of the pearls, which mysteriously vanished.
Well, I can be sure my father did not mean to keep this fairy tail. He had been on to call books as such as nonsense and timewasters, even as a child he would refuse to read me anything that could be considered fiction. I place the book down on my night table and sigh, this book is so not him, it's as if the man from the bank had just given it to me because he felt bad.
I stand from my bed and make my way to my cupboard, I pull out the a silk night gown and wrap it around my body. It's been a long day, I need a good sleep to recuperate myself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 hours later and still nothing, I can not even a little bit of sleep will be had tonight. I huff and close my eyes for what seems like the 1000th time tonight. The sound of my window clanging open catches my attention, I listen out for any noise that follows but nothing. It was probably just the wind. I keep my eyes tightly shut and begin to think back on the day when a series of footsteps put me back on edge.
This cant be happing, not tonight. I shrink into my bed to try and go unnoticed by my intruders. A gruff 'shhh' is sounded right by my bed, I try my hardest to squirm at the noise.
"Did you find them?" another voice asks, huskily,
"Do you think I did!?" another snaps back.
I feel my necklace being picked up off my chest and then fiddled with a little, I want to do something scream maybe but I cant. Who ever it was puts my necklace back down slowly, as to not 'wake me' and I feel the wind move next to me as 'he/she' walks way. A loud clanging sound from the corner of my room echo's around my room,
"Miss Merryweather?" Miss Heliotrope shouts from down stairs, I silently thank god as I hear her fast paced footsteps coming my way. My room is filled with the scuttling of feet and quiet hissing of profanities, then silence, "Miss Merryweather!" Miss Heliotrope shouts as she enters, "What is with the racket?" she asks. I sit up fully and see her annoyed face soften as she notices how scared I look, "What happened?" she ask, softer this time,
"Nothing" I reassure, she sighs and goes to shut my window,
"You should be asleep by now, Miss" she mumbles, "You have a busy morning" she smiles, "Aren't you existed to meet your uncle Benjamin?" she smiles as she picks up pieces of the fallen vase,
"Am I existed to meet a man who has never given enough fucks to say as much as happy birthday? or come to his own brothers funeral? Oh, Miss Heliotrope I'm ecstatic" I say every word dripping with sarcasm,
"Miss Merryweather!" Miss Heliotrope snaps, "Watch your mouth" she shouts, "You should be great-ful that he even agreed in letting you stay!" she adds, crouching down and picking up pieces of shattered pot
"Miss Heliotrope" I sigh, "I'll can pick that up, you go do what ever you were doing" I say walking to the mess on the floor,
"Be up in time in the morning, or I'll be leaving with out you" she grumbles as she slams my bedroom door, jhez calm it, I roll my eyes.
I listen for the clicking of her heels before I stand up and scan the room for my midnight visitors,
"I know you're here" I threaten, God I sound crazy, "It's better for you to come out now" I cross my arms. Nothing. "You don't know who you're messing with. I am a Merryweather, my father's a cornel" I state proudly, if that doesn't scare them I don't know what will, "Aww, you to scared to show your ugly mugs?" I tease, I look towards my curtains and notice that they look to be distorted, I grin as I walk towards it, "Listen, it's late and quite frankly I don't feel like dealing with your sorry arses-" I start as I stand in front of the window, "-So I'll give you a choice, you can either leave now through that window and never come back and I'll forget this ever happened, or I can scream as loud as I can" I smirk, "You guys want me to scream?" I ask after a second of silence, I hear the window be ripped open and the sound of people climbing out of it, "good choose" I smirk as I walk back to the broken vase.
