Call of the Kelpie

Call of the Kelpie

Across the seas I am calling, calling for you.

Who can resist my call? None at all.

Not men, not women, not children

They curse my name and shun the water,

But they all fall for me, when I call

And now they rest beneath the waves.

Across the vast oceans I am coming, coming for you.

I rise from the water, proudly I stand

Mane dripping an ominous note.

Then gallop away over the sand,

Seaweed flying in my wake.

Nowhere are you safe from me,

Not by land, sea, or boat.

Across the swirling tides I am seeking, seeking for you.

As a black horse I come to you,

Dark eyes depth-less and luring,

You know I am your doom

Yet you can not resist, and take my bridle

Across the waves I am here, here for you.

You fair maiden I lure onto my back,

Now you and I are one.

Now you can never escape me.

And in fear you scream realizing you are trapped.

Across the rolling breakers I run, I run with you.

My hooves fly through the spray.

You cling to my mane with tears in your eyes,

Knowing you can not be saved,

And saying good-bye to the sun,

As I dive beneath the waves.

Under the cold sea I take you, shivering

To my dark realm beneath the  ocean,

Where the sun can never reach,

And black creatures lurk.

You shudder as I whisper

'Now you are mine.'
