The Unicorn

Flitting shadows in the moonlight,

Through the trees a glimpse of white.

A stray moonbeam,

Flashing on a silvery dream.

Silent hooves on the fallen leaves,

A whisper of magic under the eaves.

Out into the silver light,

Stepping with cloven hooves and eyes forlorn.

The stuff of dreams, a unicorn.

Standing tall a pure white glory,

Found not only in a story.

Cloud-spun mane and forelock,

Head held high mounted with a glorious horn.

The legendary horn of the unicorn.

Spiraled and luminous in the moonlight,

An unforgettable sight.

Then he spins away on feathered hooves.

To vanish into the shade.

Leaving all dull again an empty glade.

Away the unicorn runs, through the starlight,

Along the seams of night.

To gallop among a swirl of dreams.
