I climb up the stairs, tears slowly dripping and blurring my vision. All I can think about is what a bad person I am. How could I do that? How could I tell him I like him and agree to go on a date with him, then turn him down and push him away?
Once I reach the top I lean on the wall and slowly slide down until I'm sitting on floor, clutching the bear and trying not to make a lot of noise with my sobs.
After I'm done pitying myself, I wipe my face with the sleeves of my already soaked cardigan -which makes me realize how cold I am- then wait a few minutes before I ring the bell so Laela won't notice that I was crying because I forgot to take my stupid key with me.
As I ring the bell I try to put on the best fake smile I can before Laela opens the door.
Laela opens the door with a joyful and expecting expression, then notices my wet attire. "Diana? What happened?" Is the first thing she says as I walk in.
"It started raining and uh, we couldn't get to the car fast enough." I lie.
"Okay then go take a hot shower and we'll talk later." She says.
I put the bear on my bed and grab my pjs. I feel much better after I take a hot shower, and try to clear my mind. After I brush my hair, I join Laela in the living room, where she's watching something on the tv.
"Sooo," She extends the vowel. "How'd it go?"
"It was great actually, I had a lot of fun." I reply with as much enthusiasm as I can.
"Where did you guys go?" She asks.
"To a carnival," I answer.
"Wow, that guy is great at picking the perfect date."
"Yeah, he is."
"Is something wrong?" She questions.
"I thought you'd be more... happy.""What? No, I'm fine, I'm just tired." The tired part is true.
"Then we can talk about it tomorrow if you want." She says. "Thanks," I reply.
"I need to tell you something though." She states.
I sit up straight and give her my full attention. "What is it?"
"My class is going on a field trip in a week!" She exclaims.
"Really? That's great," I say. "Where are you going?"
"To a museum in Manchester," She answers. "If I go I'll be gone for three days. Will you be okay by yourself?"
"Yeah, of course I'll be okay." I assure her.
"Are you sure?" She looks at me for approval. I nod in response, "I'll be fine."
"We're actually leaving in five days though," She informs me.
"Okay, that's good. I'm cold, I'm going to sleep." I tell her.
"You okay?" She asks. "Fine," I reply. "It's just cos I just got out of the shower. Good night,"
"Good night," She replies.
I lie on my bed, deep in my thoughts until I hear a sound come from my phone. I grab it off the nightstand and open it to find a text from Zayn.
From Zayn:
You okay? I hope you didn't catch a cold or anything :(
I'm surprised he even bothered to text me, let alone ask if I was okay. I'm too embarrassed to text him back so I just sit there staring at the small screen of my very old blackberry. But I didn't want him to think I was ignoring him so I replied.
