Ariana

I fell to my knees.

"Luke!"

"Ariana." He whispered out.

Luke was barely able to lift his head. I needed someone who could help him recover.

"How is he back?!" Niall screamed.

I spotted one last tube of the prototype about to roll off the desk. I caught it and held it tight. I looked over to the two zombies on the table.

The note left said to bring one back to life.

I grabbed a syringe and injected the zombie who didn't bite Luke with half of the prototype. I turned it's head away so it wouldn't bite me.

What did I do to turn Luke back? The vaccine wouldn't be enough.

1. Mercury
2. Blood
3. Salt
4. Lettuce
5. Defibrillation

I don't care how dumb the lettuce step is. I'm doing everything I did to turn this second zombie back and help save Luke.

I spilled mercury on the zombie, fed it blood and salt. I smacked the shït out of it with lettuce and electrified it once.

"Come on!" I screamed, electrifying it again. Again.  Again.  Again. I lost track.

I finally stopped and looked at the corpse. Niall was giving Luke some water and a snack. This has to work.

"Hello?" A voice whispered beneath me. I looked down to a hazel eyed boy staring at me.

"I turned you back. You were a zombie. Now, save my other friend who I just turned back!" I demanded. I didn't care about getting to know him.

"You are incredible, why did you just say all that as if it's normal?" the boy said as loud as he could. "Also, I'm sure someone who understands science so well knows I can barely speak right now."

I grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him up to me.

"I dont know SHÍT about science! If I help you until you are well enough then will you help Luke?" I said through my gritted teeth.

"Uh, yes of course!" The boy blurted out. It was obvious I intimidated him.

"Good," I smiled. "What's your name?"

"Ashton." His voice was so fragile I could barely hear him.

I grabbed some Gatorade from Luke's bag and tipped Ashton's head to make him drink it.

"Thanks," Ashton wiped his mouth. His skin had a really light green tint to it. The whole bottle was gone in a second.

"You must be really hungry. Do you want some snacks? We're kind of limited."

"Yes, please."

I walked over to Luke's bag and he turned to me.

"Ariana," he whispered lightly. "Why are you with that boy? Who is he? And why and how am I back, alive?!" Luke raised his voice a tiny bit.

"You just came back from the dead you should not be yelling! And I made a scientific breakthrough, that's why! You are lying in the same room as the girl who will possibly save the world," I said proudly.

99.99% of me is actually doubting Luke will be human more than a week, though. I don't even understand what I have done.

Luke was wide eyed and I just walked away. If I wanted Luke healthy I had to help Ashton.

I randomly halted in my tracks.

Calum and Ariel!

How long have they been waiting? An hour? Two hours at most. Did they think we died?

I ran out the door immediately and ignored Niall who was calling after me. I had my knife in the air as I rushed outside to the car. I banged on the car door. I was relieved to see Calum and Ariel sleeping soundly inside.

"WAKE UP AND COME INSIDE!" I screamed, knocking on the glass. The two woke up and glared at me.

"What the hell? Ariana told me you died! And who is this?!" Calum exclaimed.

Ashton was sleeping and Luke could barley keep his eyes open.

"They need rest," Niall pointed out. "Ariana has the ability to save the world.  Ashton will help us to know what saved Luke and how to spread this."

I lost track of what they were saying and watched over Luke sleeping.

I put my hands on his back and snuggled into him. Being on the floor like this was uncomfortable, but Luke made me happy.  I want to squish Luke to death.

Im so proud that I was the one to save him. I'm surprised that I did something important for my life.

I don't care about saving the world, though.

The world hasn't done anything for me besides making life a living hell.
