Deep growls followed me as I sprinted blindly through the woods, squishing my black vans into the mud with every step.
My face slammed into a metal gate, abruptly sending me back into the mud.
"What the fück?!" I whispered to myself. I didn't know my way around this area at all. I'm pretty sure I'm in Florida.
I never stay in the same place, I'm always running. The more places I visit, the more chances I have of actually finding another human being.
I got up and wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans, not having time to mourn over my dirty clothes. I only had one other pair of clothes and some toiletries in my backpack. The one weapon I possessed was a bloody knife.
I pulled out my useless phone and turned on the flash.
A black gate surrounding a plain beige house was illuminated.
Shelter.
Clutching my phone, I slipped both my hands through the holes in the gate, hoisting myself higher and higher until I was able to flip into another pile of mud.
Sprinting to the barey visible mucky white door, I brushed mud off of me and grabbed the handle, kicking the side of it.
I realized it was a heavy metal door and anxiety filled me. I was trapped outside this a house, in the yard with who knows what.
Suddenly the door swung open.
I noticed a knife was glimmering in the bit of moonlight there is.
"Are you alive?!" A soft, feminine voice called out from the dark in front of me, making me with relief.
"Yes! Yes I'm alive! Oh my god, I can't believe I found another human being!" I exclaimed, being so exuberant that I could almost cry.
But, I know the word alive doesn't translate to your friend, even these days.
"Why are you here?! What do you want? You've led the zombies right to me! I haven't left my home since I fully secured it 1 year ago, now I'm dead for sure!" The girl blurted in my face.
I couldn't see anything since it was pitch black, and my phone was now dead. I could only charge my phone or flashlight during the day, because my charger was solor powered. There's no electricity or cell phone connection anywhere.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know there was anyone here, I'm just trying to survive. And your gate is really secure, I almost didn't make it here." I tried to converse with her, I was hoping we could get along. I need to have someone to talk to.
"Ugh, come on in." I listened to her shoes patter against the floor.
She grabbed my arm and blindly led me to sit down. Out of nowhere, the girl lit a match and turned a lantern on.
"Damn, you're dirty."
The lantern fully illuminated her features. She had olive skin, big chocolatey eyes and mole along her mouth. She scrunched her nose as she smelled me, flipping her ombre hair as she sat across me on a white couch. I examined her outfit, seeing that she wore a crop top and shorts despite it being cold as hell.
I sniffed the air, and past my stench I could tell that she smelled like perfume. I bet she had a supply full of useless things.
"What's your name?" I choked out, feeling extremely self conscious about myself from my voice to the mud covering me head to toe. The girl was already out of my league.
"Ariana, Ariana Grande. What your name, cutey?"
Ariana Grande rang a bell for me. I just don't know which one. The nickname surprised me, I was literally covered in mud.
"I just met you and you're already flirting with me, when I stink and am covered in dirt from head to toe?"
"I said, what's your name?"
"Luke, Luke Hemmings."
