Angeline's POV
I hated to lie to him. I didn't need a personal assistant. I just didn't want him to leave. He's cute and has potential. Even if he doesn't know it. When I saw that he shaved my heart started racing like a hummingbird. Damn, he looked sexy shirtless despite the bruising and bandages. He has abs although they're not too visible since he's malnourished. I plan to fix that now that I have him as an employee. We discussed everything over dinner. He even helped with Ashton when he heard her cry. I was a little iffy at first, but I watched him like a hawk. There needs to be some kind of background check done before I let him invade my personal life. After dealing with Kris, maybe even a psych eval. I'm sure Shadow isn't his real name. We need to get this done soon. No matter how adorable and innocent he may look. He apologized for not asking to shave. I told him it was fine.
After dinner, I went to my study to do some work. Because of the events today I didn't get to start on my college work. I had to decide whether to work on that or my book. Sadly for Steve, my college work won. I curled up in my huge bean bag chair with my laptop. Ashton was down for the night. I wasn't sure when they would be back so I brought her bassinet up here. She's sleeping soundly to the classical music playing. I think Shadow went to bed. What an odd name for a guy.
"Ang. Wake up." Someone said. I jumped up and immediately searched for the baby. I sighed in relief when I saw Richard holding her. I looked down at my laptop to see that it was past midnight. I must've fallen asleep. Fuck.
"Hey. Thank you for watching Ashton for us. How's the John Doe?" Marylynn asked. I sat up and yawned.
"He's okay. His name is Shadow by the way." I yawned again.
"Got a last name?" Marylynn asked.
"Didn't ask. Just see if you can find anything with his fingerprints or blood from the hospital. I know it sounds extreme but I can't let him go back out on the streets. I offered him a job, but we need to know everything we can about him. I'm not having a repeat..." I trailed. She nodded in understatement. Marylynn is still involved with the army. The main reason why she's my bodyguard. I trust her judgment.
A scream erupted out of nowhere. Marylynn was the first out and I followed after. We ran down the hall to the room Shadow was sleeping in. Marylynn drew her weapon and searched the room. Shadow was thrashing and screaming on the bed.
"Shadow!" I yelled. He jolted away, panting as if he just ran a marathon.
"Everything is clear," Marylynn said. I nodded and looked back at Shadow. Sweat covered his forehead and chest. He must have had a nightmare. Knowing the feeling all too well, I climbed on to the bed and reached out for Shadow. He scrambled into my arms without a second thought and whimpered. Rocking back and forth I whispered nice words to him. He was shaking in my arms. I ran my fingers through his sweaty hair. His shaking died down some. I got comfortable under the covers. He clung to me desperately. I petted his head and whispered reassuring words to him. Soon his breathing evened and I knew he was asleep.
"Let's hurry on that eval," I said to Marylynn. She nodded and left.

"Angie. Breakfast is ready." Richard said from the door. I gave him a thumbs up and he went back downstairs. I've been up for a while. S
imply watching Shadow sleep. Sounds creepy but this is the first time I've ever slept with anyone. He clung to me as I would disappear. Even when I had subs I never slept with them. Nor did I have sex with them but that's a whole different story. Shadow's head rests on my stomach while his hands clung around my waist. He was snoring softly, I didn't want to wake him. However, he needed to eat.
"Shadow," I whispered while running my hand through his hair. He groaned and stirred, burying his head more into my abdomen. I smiled to myself and buckled my hips causing him to roll over. I stood and adjusted my clothes. I usually sleep nice. Don't ask why I'm just more comfortable that way. I looked over at a half-asleep Shadow. He rubbed his eyes and yawned.
"Breakfast time," I said. He looked at me as if he'd never seen me before. His eyes fell down to the spot on the bed where I just vacated. He tensed and his eyes went wide.
"What happened?" He asked shakily.
"You had a nightmare. So I slept with you for comfort. I'll get you a bear or something. I don't do the sleeping thing." I said and left the room.
I made my way downstairs following the smell of coffee. As soon as I stepped off the last step a mug of coffee was in front of my face. I stuck my tongue out at Richard and he laughed.
"Where's my Ashie?" I asked.
"Sleeping," Richard said while returning to the pancakes.
I sipped my delicious coffee and made my way to my room. After finishing off my coffee I stepped into the shower. I had to wash away the feeling of someone on me. I could still feel Shadow's arms around me. What would usually make me feel gross and dirty actually brought a smile to my face? I shook off the thought and stepped out of the shower. I checked my calendar to see what I had to do today. Shit. I have to attend a dinner tonight. At least that's the only thing on my schedule. I slipped on a dress and some heels and headed downstairs. Shadow was blushing uncontrollably and giggling as Richard did the salsa with an imaginary person. Shaking my head and smiling myself, I pulled out my phone and called Marylynn letting her know to get the car ready. She informed me that she's having no luck getting any information on Shadow. She also added her training in interrogating and that she could talk to him. I'll have to take her up on that offer.
"Nice moves," I said with a smile. They both looked up and Shadow tried to avert my eyes. I ignored it and walked over to them.
"Let's go Shadow," I said walking past him.
"Where are we going?" He asked, confused.
"Shopping," I said in my best teenage white girl voice. Richard choked on a sausage and I laughed.
"Now Richie, I know you've had bigger things in your mouth," I said innocently. His eyes widened and I died laughing. Shadow stood there confused as ever. I beckoned him to follow me and we left Richard shouting his innocence.
