I was sitting in a chair tears still streaming down my face when Daniel ran into the waiting room. The receptionist glared at him, probably thinking that he was the father of the baby. I didn't care, I stood up and rushed across the room to throw myself into his arms.

He hugged me tightly against him as I sobbed into his chest. I could have called Holden when I decided not to have the baby, but for some reason I wanted Daniel there. I don't know why and I silently prayed that he wouldn't ask me why I had called him. He didn't. He just hugged me as tightly as he could and let me cry into his shirt.

After about five minutes I was still crying but not as much as before, I was finally able to explain to him what was going on, “I couldn't do it,” I sobbed.

“Sssh, I know. It's okay. There's nothing wrong with that decision,” Daniel soothed.

I shook my head, “I shouldn't have even come here. You were right. An abortion wouldn't have been the right choice. I couldn't do it. No way.”

He smiled and shook his head, “It's okay. You needed to figure this out yourself. I don't blame you for coming here. It's your life and your body, not mine. So it wasn't my choice to make.” I nodded, agreeing with him as I subtly wiped my nose on his shoulder. “Do you mind me asking why you decided not to abort the baby?” he asked.

“It's 1/17th of an inch,” I sniffed.

A small laugh escaped his lips, “Is that the only reason you decided not to have the abortion?”

I shook my head, “It has a heart that has already started pumping blood. My baby has a heartbeat. Apparently it's too soft to hear, but it's there.”

“Your baby?” he asked, obviously enjoying my choice of words.

“Yes, my baby. Plus there was this horrible poster with pictures of the various ways babies are aborted. There was no way I was doing that to my baby. The pictures made me sick. It was horrible.”

He pulled me tight against him as I finished crying and wiped my eyes, “I'm sorry Daniel, you must be sick of me crying by now. I do it way too often.”

“Not at all,” he said with a shake of the head, “you're pregnant, you have an excuse to be like this it's fine. I'm just so glad you called me. Where's Holden?”

I nodded towards the door, “Across the road at the bookstore. They wouldn't let him go in the room with me so he went there. I should probably call him.”

“Don't worry, I'll do it. You just sit and relax,” Daniel said as he took out his phone walked a little ways away from me so that he could make the phone call. When he came back he sat next to me and held my hand as we waited for Holden to make it back to the office.

The receptionist made her way over to where we were sitting when she saw that I wasn't crying any more and smiled kindly down at me, “So I take it we won't be performing that procedure today?”

I shook my head and looked down at my shoes, “I'm sorry for wasting your time,” I whispered.
