It took me a week to drive out to California.
I could have run away to somewhere closer but right now, there were only five people I wanted to see.
Five people I needed to see.
Well six if you counted Daniel, but after he figured out what I had done he would never want to even look at me again.
So I'd have to try to forget about him.
As impossible as that was.

I slowly walked up the familiar front walkway and into Braydon's appartment complex.
I would have stayed with Carter, but since he, unlike Braydon who lived on his own, lived with his parents I would have had to deal with the uneasy looks and the "Taryn, honey, you should really go home" 's that his parents would eventually start to give me.
But Braydon lived alone.
And his appartment had a second bedroom that he never used.
I took a deep breath and pushed my hat down as far as I could onto my head so that it cast all the bruises on my face into shadow. They still hadn't faded away yet.
And then I knocked on the door.
At first I heard nothing but the dull roar of the television in the living room so I knocked harder.
"Braydon, someone's knocking on your door!" Gavin yelled.
"Well then why don't you answer it?" came Braydon's response.
"But Joey's closer," Gavin whined.
"Then make Joey answer it!"
"Oh no, Aaron's closer, not me!" Joey yelled.
"I am not! You got up and moved!"
"So?"
"So why didn't you answer the door when you got up?" Aaron questioned.
"Someone's gotta get the door!" Carter yelled.
"How about you, buddy?" Gavin retorted.
"Fine," Carter grumbled and a few seconds later the door swung open.
Carter stared at me for a few seconds and I could tell that because he couldn't see my face he really couldn't recognize me. I waited for him to speak.
"Dude, who is it?" Gavin yelled.
Carter turned his head, "Braydon, there's a pregnant woman in a Dodgers cap standing in your hallway. Should I let her in?" he called into the appartment.
"Well here's an idea, why don't you find out who she is," Braydon responded.
Carter turned around and before he could ask I took off my hat. He recognized me immediately now and pulled me into a hug, pulling me into the appartment and slamming the door shut.
He pulled away slightly and kissed my forehead, "Why are you here?" he asked.
"I'll tell you later, just hug me."
"How'd you get knocked up?"
"I'll tell you later, just hug me."
"What happened to your face?"
"I'll tell you later, just hug me."
"Taryn... talk to me please," he whispered.
"Carter... just hug me, please."
