chapter seven---STRANGE FREQUENCIES

Theo and I were still on the roof of the hospital with the chimera's dead body.

Theo returned to normal. "I know what happened to Donovan. I know everything. I was there. I was at the library. Scott and Stiles found out that the bodies were being taking. They were texting us to see where you were. They said you had practice at the school. I told them I was close, and I followed your and Donovan's scents to the library. When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down."

"You saw him?" I asked.

Theo nodded. "Just the body." I turned away, breathing heavily, holding my shoulder. "I watched you come out. I was gonna say something, but then I saw the cop car. And the body was gone." I turned to face him. "I don't know who took him. I only saw what you saw, and I didn't say anything because you didn't." We heard sirens wailing in the distance, coming closer, looking in the direction it came from. Theo looked at me. "That's not an ambulance, is it?" I shook my head, turning away. "We should get out of here."

I looked at the chimera's body. "We can't just leave him."

"Fine," Theo told me. "All right, let's take him." I looked at him. "Someone's stealing the bodies anyway, right? Here's our chance to find out who." I looked at the chimera's body. "Stacie, come on. We gotta do something."

I looked at Theo. "You killed him."

'In self-defense," Theo told me. "He was going to kill you and me. He almost ripped your throat out."

"Yeah, and then you ripped out his," I told him.

"If we stay, we're either going to have to tell the truth or we're going to need a pretty convincing story," Theo told me. I looked away. "It's your choice. I'm not going to ask you to lie to your dad."

I shook my head. "Don't worry. I've had plenty of practice."

Theo smirked.

I looked away, shaking my head.

We took the body to the clinic for Scott and Stiles to see, telling them that one of the dread doctors had killed him.

"Do you know him?" Theo asked.

"His name's Josh," Scott told us. "He was a junior."

I looked at Theo, looking away, covering Josh's body with a sheet.

"Which one did it?" Stiles asked. "The one with the cane?"

I looked at Theo.

Theo nodded. "Yeah."

I looked at Scott and Stiles, avoiding their gazes. "What are we going to do with him? We can't just set the alarm and leave. That's how Tracy disappeared. All right, someone's got to stay here with him."

Theo sighed. "I'll do it." We looked at him. "It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned."

Scott's phone buzzed. He pulled it out, looking at the text in shock.

"What is it?" Stiles asked.

"Another one," Scott answered. "Another chimera."

Liam had taken the new chimera, his crush Hayden, to Scott's house, but she locked herself in the bathroom.

Scott knocked on the bathroom door. "Hayden? It's Scott. I know that you're scared, but we just... we want to help." He turned back to us. "I can hear hr heart beating. She's really freaked out."
