Forgive Me?

"Dani!" Strangely enough, he felt comfortable saying her name. After Maeve was shot dead, he could barely say JJ's own name, and he had been working with Jennifer for years. I guess I've recovered a bit, he thought to himself.

When the young officer didn't answer back to him, he called out again. "Daniels!"

Still, she didn't bother to turn around. He could see that her pace became more brisk than before. One last time, he thought.

"Calla!" Since she was wearing somewhat of a heel, he could hear her stop all of a sudden.

"What did you call me?" Now, she turned to face him. The anger was obvious in her eyes.

"I just said your name."

"Well, Dr. Reid, I think whenever your team arrived, my sergeant made it clear that I do not go by my first name."

"Well," he explained, "I had to get your attention somehow." Slowly, she walked towards him. Soon enough, they were only inches apart.

"What happened to be so important that you had to use my first name?"

"We had a little bit of an arrangement tonight and you just walked out. You expected me not to do anything?"

"In all honesty Dr. Reid, I didn't think you would even bother showing up."

"Why do you say that?"

"I just do." She turned and walked off, her hair falling lightly against her back with every step.

He could understand her being so mad at him. Then again, Spencer didn't see what the huge deal actually was. All he was trying to do was play off someone else. 'Play off' in the sense of brushing them off without causing a scene. And while brushing off the hostess played out fine, Calla walked out. He didn't necessarily feel guilty, but he did feel like he wasn't given a chance to explain himself. He had it all planned out over how he was going to explain it but he knew that if he actually did try, then he wouldn't be able to even utter a word.

He felt like he was holding on to something. In a sense, he was. He still had her gift in his hands. "Cal," he yelled towards her, once again. She turned around and placed her hands on her hips, the annoyance very obvious.

"What do you want now Reid?"

He took small steps towards her, each step becoming heavier with every inch. "I want to explain myself. That's all."

"I have to get home. You have 2 minutes."

Reid, rather quickly, retold the events of the encounter with the other woman. "I didn't even know her, much less want to do whatever with her."

He watched silently as Calla simply stood there. It seemed to the young man that he was standing there, taking blows. It wouldn't surprise him. He couldn't blame her if she was pissed at him. Then again, it wasn't necessarily him who screwed up. "You have to understand Daniels. Please?" Each passing second, standing here with her, felt like the seconds needed before a bomb exploded. After nearly a minute of (painful) silence, she regained conversation. "Walk with me." She motioned to him. The young doctor gladly took the steps, closing the distance between the two and picking up pace next to her.

It was then that he really noticed the small details about her. He saw how her hair flew out behind her with each step she took. He saw how the dress she wore hugged all the right places. He even picked up that as a mom, she looked good. (A.N. Think 'sexy'. I just didn't wanna write it. It felt to... descriptive I guess.) For a cop, she was fit and lean.

When her eyes found his, he quickly looked away. "I'm sorry," he muttered. Dani simply shook her head and looked away, back at the ground. Neither one of them spoke until they reached her car.

He stepped in front of her as she searched for her car keys. He edged his hands in his pockets, rubbing them together. When her eyes found his again, they were stuck in silence again. It was moments before Spencer broke the silence.

"I'm sorry tonight didn't turn out like either of us planned."

"Well, how exactly did you plan on tonight turning out," she asked.

"First of all," he began. He reached inside his bag and pulled out the book and handed to her. She thanked him and began searching for her own item. She pulled out a wrapped box and handed it over to him.

Neither of the two opened their gifts. Then, Reid continued. "I also saw this." He leaned down slightly and placed his lips to Calla's cheek. "Goodnight Daniels." He smiled slightly before turning and walking off.

Calla stood there, slightly shocked at Reid's action. She leaned against the car, trying to piece together the night's events. It all seemed to blur for her until her mind went through the kiss. She didn't know why Reid would bother with her. He didn't know even a quarter of her struggle. And yet he did anyways.

Calla escaped from her thoughts and got into her car. She pulled out from the garage and followed the route home.

She pulled into her driveway to be met with her kids. She stepped out of the car, lugging her wrapped gift and purse with her. She stepped inside and found Samantha. "Thank you so much for watching them. I really appreciate it."

"Well, how'd the date go?"

Calla blushed a light pink before looking back up at the sitter. "It was one I'll definitely never forget."
