The police were leading a handcuffed Derick away into the squad car. Lian stood among the crowd who had come to witness part two of this afternoon's saga. They were amused and highly entertained by the drama unfolding before them.
"This is the best holiday ever!" someone shouted.
"There must be hidden cameras around here." another person commented.
"It's sh*t is for real!" a young guy in swim shorts said gesticulating to his friends.
Lian ignored them she was too happy to see Derick put into the squad car. He glared at her. She smiled giving him a small bow of triumph.
Didn't he know that hitting someone against their will was classified as an assault which was a crime?
There were a poolside of witnesses and CCTV footage to support her case.
Let him spend the night in jail, she hoped they put him in with some hardened criminals who would rough him up badly, let him taste what it is like to be bullied. The female officer beside her asked if she needed to visit the hospital before making her report. Lian was too overjoyed to listen properly. She bent her head to hide her smiles and shook her head slowly.
'I am fine just a bit shocked but I should be fine by tomorrow.' This was great, Derick had not seen this one coming she was sure. The officer reassured that Lian was fine, and left after securing an appointment at the police station at 11 am, the next day. She turned away and went back to her hotel room amid the excitement of everyone around. Lian ignored everyone and sequestered herself in her room. She should be ecstatic now but somehow the feeling was not there. She had a guy arrested for assault! Her parents would surely love to hear about this incident.
In fact, they would have already been on the plane to visit her if they knew about this interesting development in their daughter's life. They were over protective and had balked at her idea of going out of state to college. Her parents were both educators. Her father a criminology professor and her mother a physics professor so they had expected their one and only child to opt to attend their institution but Lian had wanted her freedom although she loved her parents she had also needed to test her independence. That is why she was studying journalism. She loved writing and exploring new things. She was curious by nature and loved to investigate things, people just anything which drew her interest.
'Lian?' Came the sound outside her door. It was her best friend Tania Walters. Lian heard the door unlock and then open slowly. Tania was glaring at her, she came in and closed the door loudly behind her, leaned against it, and closed her eyes. Tania must be furious and like a volcano, she looked like she was ready to explode. Lian took a deep breath as Tania reopened her eyes. Tania was now standing straight with her arms crossed.
'Well? What do you have to say for yourself Lian Keaton? Huh?' she had started to pace in front of the bed. 'How could you let them arrest Derick, of all the insane things you have done this takes the cake!'
Lian sat up on the bed crossing her legs Indian style.
'He hit me Tania; the guy had the guts to put me over his knees to slap me like a child! The last time I checked that was a criminal offence. He is getting what he deserves.' she smiled.
'Yeah, Derick Travers is getting exactly what he deserves.' She felt smug but the deadly look from Tania made her gulp.
Tania was pacing rapidly now, 'Lee, you threw his laptop into the pool which had his entire semester coursework, the guy is in jail right now because of you!' Tania was still pacing and it was making Lian dizzy.
