A Second Chance at Love (Akuroku Love Story)

The Anniversary of 9/11

It was September eleventh and for once I woke up with out Axel. I freaked out terrified that something had happened once again. Though once I was down stairs in my empty house, cause my parents weren’t home and Sora was out with Riku, there was Axel just sitting there at the kitchen table. Something was off I could tell since Axel was holding a mug of coffee just staring off into the distance. Especially since his mug of coffee that is usually steaming hot was cold. “Axel…..” I asked as I came up to him. “uh oh hey Roxas.” Axel said his voice sounding sad. “What’s wrong Aku?” I asked really confused. “It is the anniversary of my mother’s death Roku.” Axel calmly said. “What oh Aku.” I said wrapping my arms around him. “I just wished I had worked hard to get her to stay.” Axel said tears starting to fill his eyes. “What do you mean Aku. Come on it will help to talk about it I am here for you Aku.” I said worried for Axel. “It was on this very day that I had woke up to my mom telling me she has to leave for work. I don’t know why but I had this very bad feeling so I tried to get here to stay. In the end she left say it was very important that she went. She was in the twin towers when those planes crashed into them. For days she wasn’t found but they found her under debris holding a late present to me. At her funeral I was handed the present. It was keys to what is now my store.” Axel said and once he finished he broke down crying. I just held Axel close and whispered random words of love in his ear till he calmed down. “Do you just wanna stay home today?” I asked. “No, I wanna go to her grave.” Axel said his voice saying he was totally serious. “But Axel-” I started to say but Axel interrupted saying “I know it is back at my house but I got to do this Roxas.” With that said I couldn’t help but agree.

An hour later we were out in the car driving down the street when Axel pulled over at a flower shop. “Axel?” I asked confused as we walked into the shop. “Axel I was expecting you. Oh who is you friend?” the lady at the counter asked. “Roxas my boyfriend.” Axel stated calmly as he grabbed the buddle of flowers she handed him. “Oh this is the oh so infamous Roxas. Nice to meet you Roxas I’m Sarah. I give Axel his flowers for any time mainly today.” She said smiling friendly. “Thanks Sarah.” Axel said putting a five on the table and walking out. “Roxas.” Sarah said. “Ya?” “Today is hard for him. Everything turned up side down for him. That was the day his father changed.” “What! You knew.” I said shocked. “No, but I could tell when Axel came in for flowers he wasn’t right and I heard rumors. The point is Axel is gonna be tense and uptight today but remember he loves you. You were the one Axel was always waiting for.” “How would you know that?” “Axel would always come in on today and August 13 to get flowers. I asked about August and he said it was for the love he was waiting for. Trust me, and you better get going Axel is waiting for.” Sarah said waving me out the door. “Thanks Sarah.” I said walking out to join Axel.

The car ride there was silent. I stayed silent mainly as a form of support for Axel. Once we were at the house which was being torn down to build a new one in its place. I followed Axel a good distance behind the house going to a polished black grave stone. On the tomb stone was engrave ‘RIP Ariel Flynn A mother and wife whose love reached people beyond the grave.’ I watched form behind Axel as he kneeled in front of the grave placing the flowers down, and began saying “Hey mom, it is that time of year again. I know I should visit more but with the way Father was I couldn’t. Though I am know able to say I have gotten away form him. Thanks to everyone Father is now in prison and soon on his way to you. Where I know you will eat him out for what he did.” Then Reno came up form behind me with Rude. “Hey Roxas.” Reno said quietly as not to interrupt Axel. “Reno?” I asked confused on why Reno wasn’t going to his brother. “I never knew mom like Axel did so this is harder on him than me. Cause Axel almost totally raised me no help form that man.” Reno said calling his father that man like he has been doing since he found out what he was doing to Axel. I nodded going back to watching Axel. “You won’t believe how amazing it is to have gotten my Roxas back. Yeah mom I finally got him back. Well mom as much as I would love to stay but knowing you. You would say I need to get up and go hang with my Roxas, and I will mom. Love you mom.” Axel said getting up and walking over to us. “Reno.” Axel said noticing Reno. “Hey Axel. You go home and take it easy and if I found out you were at the shop I will harm you.” Reno said walking past and to the grave. I knew this was a serious day for them since they both called each other by their name.

Once we were home I found myself sitting on our bed as Axel walked out of the bathroom. “Axel?” I asked him. Axel just collapse down beside me. Axel snuggled up to me warping my arms around me and that was when he started crying. “Oh Roxas….. Why did……..she have……..to die……..” Axel sobbed out. “Sssshhhh I don’t know Aku but I do know she loved you.” I said to Axel wrapping my arms around him. As Axel cried himself out cold I started to think. How would I have been able to deal if my mother had died or even my Dad or even Sora. I hated to think Axel has lived such a hard life and I was never there for him but I knew I could make up for it by being there now. On top of that I couldn’t help but remember all the people who were lost this day from the victims at the Twin Towers to the heroes on Flight 93. How were those people’s families and love ones dealing or how many lives where turned upside down because of that attack. The only thing I could do now was to comfort Axel and remember those people and how the people on Flight 93 were true American citizens and heroes of our country for doing what they knew was sure death to save their country. Plus how grateful I am for what I have today and how everyone I knew in my past life was a live and luckily not there. I fell asleep that night holding Axel tightly to my chest.

I would also like to honor the people in 9/11, May the victims of the Twin Towers be remembered and their families live long happy lives for those they lost that day, For the people on Flight 93 who where true American citizens for standing up in the face of death to save the poeple in our country. May they be honored and remembered as the heroes they were.  I know this day is hard on everyone in America but we must pull forward and proved those people's lives were not lost for nothing.
