False Tales, Lies

“Can I get the one with the tour dates on the back in a small?” a groupie-looking girl asked pointing to my personal favorite shirt that was for sale this tour. She lad long dark hair and bright blue eyes and wore a low-cut tank top paired with a tight miniskirt. She had way too much makeup on. I had to keep myself from shaking my head at her appearance.

I handed her her t-shirt and she gave me twenty dollars, but she didn’t leave. She leaned against the table like she was settling in for a long talk or something. I looked at her suspiciously, but didn’t say anything. It was a free country; she could stand anywhere she wanted. “I can’t believe you and Danny are actually getting married,” she commented finally. I felt myself blush a bit.

“Why not?” I questioned curiously. Groupies usually acted like they knew it all and this girl was obviously no exception.

“Well, it’s obvious he still sleeps around,” she told me. Danny used to sleep with a lot of groupies. His girlfriend before me had broken up with him because of it and he stopped because of it and later because of me. He told me that he never wanted to hurt anyone the way he had hurt his ex-girlfriend again and I truly believed he was being honest.

“No, he doesn’t,” I replied defensively. Other than the fact that he told me he wouldn’t hurt me, I lived on the same bus as him. If he brought a groupie within a fifty mile radius of the place, I would know it.

“Well, my friend told me she slept with him last time you guys were around here,” she told me. She seemed so sure and confident about what she was saying that I almost believed her, but I knew Danny would never do that to me.

“You sure she wasn’t lying?” I asked refusing to believe her. Groupies liked to brag about what band members they slept with and sometimes make up things to sound cool. After about ten years of touring, I knew a lot about groupies.

“Positive. She’s my best friend. She wouldn’t lie to me,” she reassured me stuffing her t-shirt in her purse. This girl was relentless.

“Well, guess what. Danny’s my best friend and he wouldn’t lie to me,” I retorted causing her to leave. I shook my head has she walked away.

As much as I knew Danny would never lie to me, I had to think about Danny’s past. He claimed to have slept with hundreds of girls and I had witnessed this first hand. He had had drug and alcohol problems and had gone to rehab. Thinks had been looking up for awhile, but what if he had started drinking and sleeping with groupies again?

I could barely take the fact that I was even thinking about Danny hurting me. He was my best friend and I truly believed that he would never lie to me. I was sure this girl was just making things up so I wouldn’t marry Danny and he would be free again to sleep with her, but what if there was some truth to what she was saying?
