The Nightmare

{Luna's Pov}

Once I finished doing dishes after supper I took Edith up to bed, Edith is the only thing that has kept me going after I saw his devastated look when I almost committed suicide, I knew I couldn't leave him with our step mother. Edith's  bedroom was upstairs while mine was down, I read him his favourite book until he fell asleep, once he fell asleep I pressed a small kiss on his forehead before leaving.

I went down to my bedroom and got changed into my black shorts and white long sleeve shirt, I crawled into bed and of corse I could hear my mother and her new boyfriend moaning which did annoy me, I finally fell asleep blocking them out.

As I walked into the house after I finished work I saw my mother and her boyfriend fighting and screaming, Edith came running down the stairs with fear in his eyes, I bent down opening in my arms to hug him.

"What's wrong Edith?," I asked as he hugged me tightly hearing him cry in my chest "m-mom s-she is fighting again." I rubbed his back and picked him up, he is only 4 so he was light.

I carried him to my room passing my mother "Edith!! You caused all of this!! Get your ass over here!," she demanded as she stomped behind me, I sat him down and sat down my bag turning to look at my step mother "get out of my way Luna!! If you don't move right now you will be next!," she shouted in my face making me angry.

"He is a little boy, you can't hurt him mother!," I shouted back, she then back handed me making me fall to the ground, as I held my hand on the red pain on my face I started to hear Edith scream for his life.

"Edith!!," I screamed, my mother started to beat him just as much as she does to me which could break his bones and kill him "stop!! Your going to kill him!!! I screamed in tears.

I suddenly got shaken awake as my heart started beating fast and my breathing started to get heavy, I felt the tears run down my face as I noticed Edith standing next to my bed looking at me worried "Luna?," he said quietly in his sweet but innocent voice.

"Oh Edith, I'm so sorry I had an awful dream about mother beating you almost until you died," I said pacing my breath hugging him tightly, "it's ok Luna, but you screamed really loud and mommy is angry," he pouted.

"Edith, you need to go to your bidding spot before mother come!," I said with fear as I picked him up and ran over to my bench that has a hidden spot where Edith always hides when we play hide and seek, I quickly shut it as my mother barged in looking pissed as always, "Luna! You woke me up with your nonsense of a scream!," she screamed as she smacked me across the face.

"I'm sorry mother, it won't happen again," I said quietly holding my hand to the pain "it better not!," she demanded before back handing me now, a tear ran down my face every time she hit me.

Once she left for good I went back to Edith and picked him back up, "you ok. Luna?," he said with his gentile voice, "I'm fine," I said as I started to walk to the door "Luna?.. Can I sleep in here for tonight?," he asked as he pushed my hair back.

I slightly chuckled as I wiped my tear "ok Edith, if you want," I said with a fake smile as I walked back to my bed laying him down, I laid down next to him wrapping my arm around him as he huddled into my chest. "Good night Luna," he whispered as he slowly feel asleep "good night Edith," I said as I kissed his forehead good night.
