Chapter Five
As Arthur sat at the window of his chamber the next day he thought of what happened to Adreabeth and feared that one day this could happen to Camelot as well. Arthur turned to continue polishing his sword and as he did so he glimpsed a hooded figure heading out through the town gate. The curly blonde hair hanging loosely from the hood, gave it away, it was Adelaide. Arthur knew it was probably none of business but he followed her anyway.
Adelaide was very sad about losing so many of her people. She just wanted to go somewhere where she could be alone and cry. Shortly after arriving at her spot, a small river with a log to sit on, she heard a twig snap behind her. As she quickly turned to see what it was, her hood fell down revealing her face tear stained face.
"Addie, what's wrong?" Arthur asked seeing Adelaide was crying. "Nothing", Adelaide whispered sitting down on the log. "You know Adelaide I have not known you long, but I can still tell when you're lying" Arthur said sitting down next to Adelaide. When she didn't reply, Arthur said "I know you don't like me very much but you can still tell me anything".
"It's not that I don't like you, it's just I'm still really mad at my father for not giving us a choice. What if you were already in love with someone?" Adelaide secretly didn't want Arthur to be in love with someone else, as she did have feelings for him. Not that you could call it love, they didn't know each other very well. Adelaide just could not stand to see him with someone else. "Exactly, not that I'm in love with anyone else" Arthur stated.
Amelia had searched every inch of the palace and still had not found Adelaide. When she bumped into Merlin, she asked him if he had seen her." No, and I can't find Arthur either, I wonder where they went" said Merlin. Amelia started to reply, "Well if you see Adelaide can you tell her I'm looking....."Merlin cut Amelia sentence short by kissing her.
Arthur and Adelaide talked for many hours about their families and their lives. As they talked, they got to know each other more, and their feelings for each other grew. Adelaide wondered if being forced to marry Arthur was not such a bad thing as she had initially thought. She was suddenly pulled from her thoughts by Arthur grabbing her and kissing her gently on the lips.
Adelaide was shocked at first, but then returned the kiss with passion. As Arthur pulled away he said he was sorry. Adelaide said it was OK, but still her cheeks still turned a deep red. Adelaide was very shocked at what Arthur did, yet she wanted to kiss him again but lacked the courage to do so.
The two continued to talk until it was time to head back to Adreabeth. As they walked up the steps to the palace, they saw a very happy Merlin and Amelia. "Why are you so happy?" Adelaide asked smiling. Merlin looked at Amie, smiled and said "no reason". Amelia grabbed Merlin's hand and the giggled quietly as they walked away. Adelaide and Arthur just looked at each other and started giggling also.
