Read authors notes at the end of the book for more details!

Arthur tried desperately for over ten minutes to awaken Adelaide before finally giving up. He sent his men ahead to Camelot requesting that Gaius prepare for their arrival. He couldn't help blaming himself for what had happened; he should of told the guards not to let Adelaide out of her chamber, he should have watched over her himself. As Arthur picked Adelaide up off the floor, he noticed that she was barely breathing. He held her tightly as he ran towards Camelot.

When Arthur's men arrived at Camelot they headed straight to Gaius's chamber's. "Lady Adelaide has been hurt. Arthur is bringing her in and requests that you prepare for her arrival", Sir Leon stated with a stern voice that did not reflect the deep concern in his eyes. "I told Arthur that Adelaide was to stay in her chambers! Now she is hurt further! How did this happen?" Gaius said getting angrier the more he spoke. "Well I'm not sure. Something to do with magic, she can barely breath'' Sir Leon said with fear laced in every word he spoke. "Merlin get ready for Arthur and Adelaide's arrival" said Gaius as he busied himself pulling bottles from the shelf and placing them on the table next the bed.

Arthur's arms and legs were screaming with pain from running so far with Adelaide in his arms. Yet he would not falter; something deep within his heart gave him the strength to carry on. It was as they neared Camelot that Adelaide suddenly awakened and started to scream and kick him. "Adelaide please calm down its just me" he pleaded with her, "Please, I need to get you to Camelot". Upon hearing Arthur's voice she slowly focused on his face, looked deep into his blue eyes and gently laid her head on his shoulders. Again her breathing returned to the shallow breaths that he had feared earlier. "Adelaide please stay strong" he whispered against her blonde hair that was gently resting upon his lips.

After alerting Gaius of Adelaide's condition, Sir Leon galloped back to find Arthur and Adelaide. As he approached the city boundaries, he came upon Arthur who, to his surprise, was still running with Adelaide. He rushed to assist his master, and gently laid Adelaide upon his horse. Arthur immediately mounted the horse behind Adelaide and galloped off towards the castle.

Arthur ran into Gaius's chambers with Adelaide in his arms once more. As soon as he lay her on the bed he was pushed aside by Merlin. "GAIUS, she barely has a heart beat" Merlin said quietly as he looked upon her.  Merlin was very angry at himself; if only he had gone with Arthur to the woods, he may have been able to use magic to prevent this terrible sickness that now plagued Adelaides's frail body.  Merlin did not know what type of magic was used on Adelaide, but he knew that if he were going to save the young princess he needed to find out fast. Gaius pulled Merlin to one side and told him to somehow get Arthur to leave so that they could use magic to try and help her. Merlin thrust an empty jar in Arthur's hand and said that if they had any chance of saving Adelaide, Arthur needed to go back to the woods and fetch some Fickle-seed flowers. Arthur grabbed the bottle and ran from the room.

Merlin and Gaius frantically searched the Book of Larden for a spell that would save Adelaide. With no knowledge of the spell that had been used on her, and only her symptoms to go on, they finally found a spell that they hoped would help her. Merlin knew only too well that the wrong type of magic could make Adelaide worse, and could even kill her. He took one last look at her frail body, closed his eyes, and chanted the ancient words of his fore fathers.

OUT-TAKES:

As Arthur's horse stood in the woods, he pondered upon why Arthur had chosen to run with Adelaide and not simply ride him back to Camelot. After staring at the blue sky above for a few moments, he gently shook his head, thought how silly this royal lot were, and then continued to eat the lush green grass beneath his feet.

As Sir Leon slowly walked back to Camelot, he began to question his choice of career; being a Knight of the Round Table seriously sucked sometimes!

Arthur skidded to a halt, still clutching the bottle that Merlin had handed him, and thought to himself 'What the heck are Fickle-Seed flowers'!!
