family reunion

Family was great, especially when I was the youngest and passive-aggressive.

"Tyler, don't call your brother that." Mom demanded, watching me walk around the table to sit opposite her and dad.

My father, a large man of six feet and burly muscle, pushed his spectacles, the ones he only uses to read, up his nose. "How you been?" He asked as I sat, looking between my family members.

"Supposedly great." Willimina grinned at me, leaning back in her chair, crossing her legs.

Tyler chuckled, falling into the chair beside dad, "Yeah, you stallion. I heard you found your mate."

I squinted at him, "Who told you that?" I'm not exactly popular so I'm not sure where the hell he'd come up with that. Then again, he's so popular, that anything that happens, he knows about.

He shrugged, leaning forward on the table, "Just something traveling the grapevine, child." I rolled my eyes.

My mother looked concerned, reaching over and clutching my hands tightly, "Elder said that you weren't healthy so you were staying here. When'd it start, you never told me."

I smiled at my mom, squeezing her hands, "It was quick, and I'll be fine, don't worry."

"So you found a mate?" My father skipped the pleasantries and sat casually beside my worry wart of a mother.

Nodding, I couldn't help smiling a little. "Yeah..."

"Can we meet her?" My mom asked, pulling her hands back into her lap. My whole family now looked curious.

Then I realized what I'd have to tell them. It wasn't so much that I was embarrassed of Livator who was my mate, my male, Alpha family member mate, that had me sweating through the new shirt. I was worried how they'd react. I've never heard their opinion on the sensitive topic so being prepared for this was out of the question.

"Matches?" My mother creased her brow, looking worriedly at me, her son. Her gay son. Her happily (yet at the moment not so much) gay son.

Scratching at my neck, I turned my head from them, sighing heavily. "My mate isn't exactly..."

"Hey, what's wrong?" Willimeana asked, sitting up in the fancy chairs.

As I stuttered, I heard my own heart pounding loudly, my mothers and fathers nervously beating harder. Willa and Tyler waited patiently for my to come up with a coherent response. "I, uh, my mate is...h-it's..."

"Just spit it out." Tyler said impatiently, "What could be so bad about your mate?"

Pausing, I nodded. What is wrong with my mate? "My mate is Livator Delimino."
