M A T C H E S

Something started happening when we got to my doorstep.

We'd already threw Thomas back home and we were squeezed into Gavin's van, quickly on our way to see Red. Believe me, I was happy to see her even though I just saw her yesterday when I went to see my parents, but something felt weird.

My wolf was unbelievably excited, practically jumping from my skin and I would have found that unorthodox if I didn't see Liv the same way, suppressing the excitement of his wolf. I could tell because my wolf kept obnoxiously screaming, 'Liv's wolf is excited, too. We can't wait for this!'

I felt odd, I felt like I'd never felt before and as I looked towards the front at Gavin who was talking animatedly to Jamie, I felt my stomach twist and my wolf get happier.

Licking my lips nervously, I looked over towards Livator who was biting his lip, glancing towards Gavin every once and a while, "Liv?"

He snapped his eyes to me, "You feel that?"

I nodded, "What's going on?"

Shrugging, he clenched his jaw, "I don't know. But whatever it is, its strong."

Sighing, I slip my hand into his and lean forward, kissing his cheek. He smiles, but then goes back to his worrying, rubbing my hand with his fingers.

When we get to the house and Gavin instantly jumps out, hurrying us all out of the car, my stomach twists and I feel my eyes change to silver. Getting out, I go towards my door first, everyone trailing behind me.

Since I forgot my key, I knock on the door, suddenly hearing very heavy breathing. Glancing behind me, I see Liv's eyes. They're golden. But there are specs of purple, that purple that practically screamed authority and yet kindness. I had to look away when the door swung open.

"Hey-oh geez, you've got the whole squad." Will's eyes widen as she steps aside. "Here to see Red?"

A muffled voice breaks through as Gavin nods excitedly and David says yes. It's barely there until it's bursting through the wall in my mind and starts to hurt, 'M...Ma...'

My eyes widen as I hear the voice get progressively louder, footsteps barreling down the stairs.

'Mate!'

I feel my eyes switch to something else as I look to Gavin instinctually. Is this what I think it is?

And my answer comes the second Red hits the ground floor, hair tied up, t-shirt and sweatpants, eyes a soft pink. Gavin had already pushed past Livator and I, standing there looking totally and utterly mesmerized.

I've heard only a bit about human and werewolf mates. That the heat was a hundred times stronger than regular werewolves and only an intensity level below a Luna's heat. The human counterpart, the one who usually didn't feel a pull to their mate before the heat starts while their mate could feel only a small amount, felt the mate pull as intensely as a werewolf would, and even had a change in body chemistry.
