Chapter 18

I awoke after along and fitful nights sleep. I had dreamt about the outcome of the Championship.

It started out as a good dream. Both Ryder and I were in the top 10. I had just won my first fight of the last day of the championships. Winning this fight meant I was going into the finals.

I had my arm raised above my head, the ref’s hand was around my wrist. I had a large smile plastered on my face, that was really the only part of my face you could see.

I had gotten a new mask for championships.

It was black with purple designs on it, it matched my purple sports bra and black shorts.

I looked throughout the crowd. I saw some friends, like TJ. The rest were strangers. I scanned the crowd from left to right. My heart stopped as I came to the middle.

Father.

He was looking directly at me, he had a vengeful looking smile on his face. I glance toward Ryder who was currently in his fight.

I watched as Ryder delivered his final blow to his competitor’s face. It knocked his opponent out cold.

I glance back to where my father had been standing. He was gone. I make my way out of the arena, I looked around, my eyes wandering around the people passing me. Some trying to give me high fives and fist bumps. I ignored it.

I finally made it out of the mob of people. And that is when I felt it. I felt a stabbing pain in my side. I grabbed at the area the pain came from. It was wet. I looked down slightly, red liquid was pouring from my side.

Blood.

That was the last thing I saw before it all went black and I woke up. I took a good 20 minutes in the shower to reassure myself that it wouldn’t happen. My father wouldn’t make such a bold move in public.

After my shower I got myself ready for the day. I put on some dark blue skinny jeans and an oversized knit sweater. It was spring, but it was still kind of cold.

I had a lot of things to do today and not a lot of time to do them, considering I slept till 11 after hanging out with Ryder. I had to pick up Kaleb from Skylar’s house, go grocery shopping for dinner tonight, and look online for a house.

Yes, I had decided that I wanted to make living here more permanent. I am sick of moving around and running every time dad gets to close.

I am sure that Kaleb hates making friends, then having to leave them behind. He has made a lot of friends in the time that we have been here and I am happy for him.

I want him to have the best childhood he can have.

How am I going to tell him though?

Will he be happy?

Kaleb’s happiness and safety are the only things that matter right now.

Ten minutes later I am out the door, apple and phone in hand. I take a bite out of my apple while in the elevator and look through my text messages.

I had one from Ryder asking if I needed help with dinner. I told him no and looked through my other texts.

I had a text from  Crimson asking if I wanted to book some fights for next weekend. I told him yes considering it is my last round of fights before the championships start.

He replied saying he has 2 fights open Friday and 3 on Saturday. He also said that my final fight on Saturday is with a newbie that requested to fight me.
