Dinner Time

Chapter 19

Apprehensively, I walked to the door. I felt… nervous. I never feel nervous. What are these people doing to me. I collected myself and turned the knob, revealing a smiling Ryder holding a beautiful little girl. 

His mother was standing next to him. She was a small woman with jet black hair and tanned skin, she was gorgeous. But she looked physically and mentally exhausted. 

Yet she still had a smile on her face, revealing her straight pearly white teeth. She was wearing a tan blouse and black pencil skirt, revealing her small figure. 

She looked so much like Ryder it was uncanny. She was holding Kellin’s hand, he was in khaki pants and a cute button up shirt. Ryder was even a bit dressed up, he was wearing dark-wash jeans and a white button up. 

I looked at Lilly, she was so cute in her pink princess dress. She had the same long dark hair as her mom, but a pale skin color. 

“Hi, Lilly. I am Tori, it is so nice to meet you. I love your dress.”

She leaned into Ryder and whispered something into his ear. 

He responded with, “Yeah, Lilly. She is very pretty.”

Aww. She is so cute. 

“You all may come in.” I look towards Ryder’s mom with a smile. 

“And you must be Ms. King”

“Call me Linda, Darling.”

She was quick to give me a hug. After she handed me a bottle of wine, I left to put it way. I opened the wine cellar and put the bottle with some others. I was about to turn around when I felt Ryder’s hands on my hips. 

I turned towards him and locked my arms round his neck. 

“You look absolutely stunning, babe.”

“Thank you, you don’t look half bad either.” 

I went up on my tippy-toes to kiss him. I gave him a peck on the lips and grabbed his hand. Towing him up the stairs, back to everyone else. 

We came out of the kitchen, hand in hand. Everyone was sitting at the table, Ryder and I sat right next to each other. 

We talked a lot through out dinner. About everything, even school. 

Linda spoke next, “So, Tori. Where are your parents at. I was expecting them to be here tonight.”

Ryder coughed on his drink, slightly.

“Oh um. Well, my mother is dead. And my father is… not around.”

“Oh, darling. I am so sorry. I didn’t know.”

“Its okay. Things happed. There is no need to dwell on the past. Which is why I have announcement to make.”

Everyone was silent.

“Kaleb and I are staying. Permanently. I had made a bid on a beautiful house. They notified me earlier that I got it.”

Ryder spoke, “That is great, babe.” he got up and hugged me. 

“So we aren’t moving anymore?” Kaleb asked with a 100 watt smile on his face. 

“Yup. No more moving. We are staying for good.”

He ran up to me and hugged me. I wiped the tears the rolled down his cheeks. Kaleb sat on my lap as we ate dessert. Ryder rested his hand on my other leg. 

“Hey, Linda. If you want the kids can stay the night over here tonight. So you can have some alone time. I just figured since you work so much, you never get any you time.”

“You’d really do that? That would be so amazing.”

“Yeah, it isn’t a problem. Kellin and Kaleb can sleep in Kaleb’s room and Lilly can sleep in my room with me and Ryder.”

“Nothing… Promiscuous will happen between you two tonight, right?”

“Yep, nothing at all. I swear.”

Ryder groaned. 

“Thank you, Tori. So much. You are amazing.” She got up and brought me into a tight embrace. 

“Mister, you listen here. Don’t you dare ever let this one go.” She directed at Ryder, motherly authority coursing through every word. 

He put his hands up in defense. 

“Relax, mum. I won’t. She is all mine.”

He pulled me in for a side hug and kissed the top of my head.

Ryder’s mum had left a bit earlier, now we were all cuddled up on the couch watching the movie UP. I was sitting next to Ryder, his arm draped over my shoulder. 

Little Lily was lying across out laps and the boys were at the opposite end of the couch.

All of the little ones were asleep. 

With the movie almost over we turned off the telivision. Ryder picked up Lilly and Kellin and draped them over his shoulders, I grabbed Kaleb and carried him on my hip. 

We stopped off at Kaleb’s room and put the boys in bed. Then we continued to my room. 

Ryder put Lilly in the middle of the bed and I went to my bathroom to get changed, o come back out in a pair of flannels and a tank top. 

Ryder stripped down to his boxers and was already in bed. I hopped up into my bed and pulled the covers over me. I reached over Lilly and pecked Ryder’s lips. He gave me a sleepy smile and 5 minutes later I was out like a light.
