"Jaime, Jaime wake up. we're going to be late." whispered my older brother into my ear.
He was standing at my bedside shaking the wits out of me.
"Jake! I'm awake. What's so important that you had to wake me up at-" I glanced at the clock. "4 am?" I said groggily.
"Pack meeting in five." He simply said and walked out of my room.
A pack meeting meant one of two things. There was a new addition to our pack, or there was an issue that needed to be resolved.
I got out of bed as Jake left the room. I wish I hadn't had to leave my comfortable accepting and fluffy mattress.
I replaced my pajama shorts with my black jeans and slipped on my converses.
My hair was tied into a tight bun at the top of my head. It was getting too long and could be a vulnerability during a fight.
I walked down the stairs and into our living room. Everyone stood dressed in their sleep apparel but even then they managed to give off a profesional and serious vibe. I hid behind them and listened for the news we were all called down here to listen to.
"Rouges have infiltrated our borders." our Beta Mack said sternly. He had his arms crossed and a deep furrow between his brows.
I looked around the room. Everyone's expression changed from curious to worried. We were in danger.
I am the youngest person standing in this room. Usually, the kids don't attend pack meetings but they make an exception for me. My father's contributions to this pack have made me and my brother Jake respected members. Though I'm twelve, I've been highly and extensively trained by professional assassins.
My expertise in combat is comparable to the seventeen year olds in this pack.
Both my brother and I endure rigorous training. Our father began preparing us for battle before most children learn how to tie their own shoes.
That was before he died.
The Alpha has raised Jake and I as his own. He too has put pressure on us to become strong and independent warriors.
After my father's death the Alpha weakened. My dad was my Alpha's Beta, his second in command.
My mother was a strong woman. She'd went through so much in her life however loosing her mate caused her to weaken. I know she tried to stay strong in front of her children but we could see the heartbreak and the pain pouring out of her. There is no bond stronger than the one between two mates.
My mom struggled caring for my ten year old brother and a bouncy six year old at the time. It was a difficult time for my entire family.
However, her suffering was put to end one night when she was savagely murdered.
I swore to find who or what killed her. Then I would do the same to them that they did to her.
Jake and I would be considered orphans had we been humans. But we were raised by our pack, they are our family. They kept us with them in the Treviosumalu pack and many women were our mother until we didn't need one anymore.
Jake was sixteen and I was twelve. We watched our parents get buried next to each other on too separate nights. We were the ones who placed the wolf's bane on their graves. We were the ones who closed their caskets. Though our pack is like our blood family, Jake and I truly only have each other.
