apology

an apology only counts
if you mean it.
let me tell you one thing,
you didn't mean it.
you let the words roll off your tongue
while standing their numb.
there was no emotion
no true regret of your actions.
you let the words fall from your mouth
like a waterfall.
you let gravity take effect
and hoped that the water
would pool around my brain.
you hoped the "sorry"
would cloud my mind
and that what came after
i would dismiss.
that the sound of the roaring waters
would cover up what came next.
well it didn't.
i'm not as naive as you like to believe
i'm not blinded by the beauty of a waterfall
when that waterfall is a lie.
when that crystal clear water
isn't actually crystal at all.
because if you really,
actually meant it,
you wouldn't have tried to tell me
my feelings were stupid,
would you?
