Chapter 5
Nate watched her move around the kitchen, grumbling, exclaiming, and wrinkling her pretty nose on what she called ‘a pig-sty of a kitchen’.
She was currently washing the dishes with a look of disgust on her face. Every minute or so she would glance at him, glaring daggers before turning to the dishes.
“Eww…” she muttered.
He stifled a chuckle. It was fun watching her. Who would have known she was such a feisty thing? That time when he first laid his eyes on her in the store, she sparked his interest. She had looked so vulnerable that he couldn’t resist touching her, even though it was with his gun.
His gun.
He took the said gun out of his hip holster and unloaded the bullets. He had just used two of them today. He grimaced. Kyle must have reloaded a dozen times from the way he was shooting around today. Taking a bullet in between his finger, he rolled it around, awed by the fact that something small as this could be so lethal. It was a bronze colour and very shiny. And if it hit a major artery, there would be internal bleeding and in turn hemorrhagic shock which will kill the victim.
Such a small thing, yet so deadly.
He heard a small gasp. Looking up, he saw Alexis looking at him- no the gun on the table with undisguised horror on her face. She was deathly pale and her lips were white. He stood up, concerned. She flinched. Frowning, he touched her arm and said, “What’s wrong?”
She shook her head, giving him a faint, “N--nothing.”
She turned around placing the clean dishes in a rack she previously dusted. She started scrubbing the sink vigorously with a metal sponge. Shrugging he sat down, trying not to stare at the way her hair was coming loose from the bun she tied. His hands itched to touch her hair, it looked so soft and smooth...man, and he shook his head. She was a kid for God’s sake!!!!
Distraction.
He took her phone and switched it on. It asked him a password. Sighing he switched it off and took his own phone out. He scrolled down his apps, choosing Angry Birds. Such an addictive game.
But it didn’t help. Because, now she was on her knees scrubbing the floor, giving him a fine view of her ass. He shut his eyes. He had to get out of here.
“Uh, Alexis, I’ll go check what the others are doing ok?” he stood up scooping the bullets in one hand, stuffing the gun into his holster. Then he took her phone and wallet in his other hand. She was looking at him; the colour was back in her face.
“Thank god,” she muttered. He thought that she had not meant for him to hear that.
“I’ll be back before you know it,” he said giving her his trademark smirk.
She coloured faintly, but said, “No, don’t come back. And could you please give me some music or something, its getting boring.”
Talk about contradictions.
He nodded slowly. Even though she was kidnapped here (willingly) she didn’t have to be a prisoner, he said to himself. He went to the living room to get his iPod docks and set them on the kitchen counter.
“Do you listen to rock?” he asked her.
“Mmm…” was her reply.
He selected Breaking Benjamin and said, “Call me when you ready to make dinner ok?”
“Mmm…”
Sounds of Diary of Jane filled the room.
“Is this song ok?”
