Ive always loved hearing about this place as it, today, remains unexplained in a way. We know that these Easter Island heads are known as Moai, what we dont know is how they got into their upright positions and locations.

It used to be surmised that logs were used in the quarry, and then slowly rolled to where they needed to be. Consider this though, the average size of these monolithic statues is around 13 feet and weighs close to 13.5 tons! So i think the log rollers are out.

Other Unique characteristics are the fact that they all look nearly the same..long sloped noses, mouths creased with thoughtfulness...but heres something you may not actually know.

Until recently, some archaeologists wanted to see the size of the base that keeps the head in place so they dug beneath the head and lo and behold.....

--Update--

a real good possibility is that they were never buried in the first place...but have slowly sank or covered by sediment. If thats the case, that would make these statues way way WAY older than scientists and archaeologists believe

If anyone has any more info about this island and the statues, by all means, leave me a comment. Id love to know more about these statues.
