Nestled in the Hayu Marca mountain region of Southern Peru near Lake Titicaca, amidst an unnatural mountain formation and carved out of one peice of stone, lies what Peruvians believe to be the "Puerta de Hayu Marca", or as we know it, the Gate of the Gods.

First off, what makes this so interesting is how its located practically in the middle of nowhere! it measures EXACTLY at 7 feet high and 7 feet across. Why this was ever carved is unexplained...in the neighboring city of Puno, locals refer to the area as the city of the gods, although no city as ever been discovered in that area.

The Local Legend

It has been said that during the time of the Spanish Conquistadors and their arrival in Peru, they had been looting the Incan Tribes of all gold, precious stones, jewelry, anything that was thought to be of value. During this time, an Incan priest from the Temple of Seven Rays fled from his temple and with him, he carried the Key of the Gods of the Seven Rays and thus hid in the mountains of Hayu Marca. He had eventually made his way to what looked like a doorway in a mountain that was being looked over by Shaman priests. As he showed them the key, the Shamans knew what they saw. They began a ritual and once completed, placed the key in a circular depression in the doorway. Scientists and archaeologists have found this depression and also claim that something circular does fit in the door and is held in place by the stone. Once the key was placed by the Shamans, a blue light emanated from the door and the priest stepped inside...virtually "fizziling out" and vanishing to join the gods and being a new life of immortality.

What makes this site so interesting to me is that one, the obscurity of the area

What makes this site so interesting to me is that one, the obscurity of the area. Two, its extreme closeness to Lake Titicacca, and Three, the fact that Shamans still go to the door and perform rituals...the same rituals that have been done by these Shamans for Generations.

Another thing i noticed that i wanted to add, and this is my own personal observation. The bible speaks of how the number of perfection, 777, is the number of god. Now i may not be the most religious person in the world, but i couldn't help but wonder....the doorway is 7 feet high, 7 feet across and a golden disc is placed in the door with 7 rays....777. Normally i wouldn't include that kind of info...but with this being called a Gateway to the Gods, where someone can literally travel and be among the gods...its hard not to notice those "coincidental" sevens!

(Thanks to Elliot Kennell at Infinite Connections PR for pointing this next bit of info out. This doorway looks similar to a design that's seen at Puma Punku. After realizing this, i did a little homework. (continued under the picture))

It took me a bit to find what i was looking for

It took me a bit to find what i was looking for...how far away is the Gate of the Gods from Puma Punku and Tiauhaunaco? i cant seem to find a site that gives the distance in miles...but from this map, i think you can get an idea of how far this gate is from Tiahuanaco.
