Part 1
"Mom, he's been out awhile," Grace said with a worried look.
"Yeah he has. I'll call him, honey," she said, taking out her phone.
The phone rang and rang and he didn't answer. "Please leave a message at the beep," the phone ordered. *BEEP*
"Hey, Jefferson. I just wanted to make sure you got to Granny's alright. Give me a call back, bye babe," she said, trying to remain calm. *BEEP*
"Ugh, he didn't answer," she said to Grace.
"Maybe we should give him a little bit. Maybe he's talking to Ruby or someone," Grace said, trying sound optimistic.
"Yeah maybe."
...
Some more time had passed and Regina Grace now feared the worst. "I'm scared mom," Grace whined into her shoulder.
"I know. I know, it's okay sweetheart-" Regina said and then heard phone ring.
Regina rushed over to it. It was Emma. Regina and Grace were so worried about Jefferson. He had been gone way too long. He wasn't answering the calls either.
"Regina I'm gonna ask you to come down to the sheriff's station first thing tomorrow morning," Emma said.
"Do you know what happened to Jefferson?!" Regina asked frantically.
"Yes. Now first thing in the morning, get some rest and be ready to answer questions, okay?" Emma said with anger clear in her voice.
"Emma. Emma wait!" Regina cried out in a small voice, shakiness present.
"Mom where's papa?" Grace asked gripping a pillow.
"I-I-I don't know. I'm sorry Grace I don't," Regina cried out as tears ran down her face.
"He's not dead i-is he?" Grace stuttered and look up into Regina's brown eyes, pleading.
"I-I don't know," Regina struggled, thinking of him. "I'm so sorry."
Please Jefferson, please. Don't be gone, not yet. I can't let go. Don't be like Jack, be my Jefferson, stay alive.
Grace crashed into her, hugging her tightly as tears stained both of their faces. Regina held her closely, giving her a kiss on the top of her head. She cradled her head, laying it on her chest as they both cried.
"He's gone isn't he?" Grace choked out, poking her head out from Regina's shoulder.
"I'm sorry," Regina apologized through sobs.
Grace buried her head in the crook of Regina's neck. Regina picked her up and they laid together on the couch, crying themselves to sleep.
