"Legends?"
"I hate to nitpick, but doesn't a legend have to be dead?"
"Yeah, that's a deal breaker for me, so I'm gonna pass."
Mey couldn't help but agree.
Rip still didn't look bothered by the uncertainty in everyone's faces though. "It's dangerous for any of you to know too much about your futures, but I am here because each of you as individuals is destined for greatness."
Mey wasn't at all convinced she could trust Rip; he had kidnapped all of them and was talking like a crazy man, but she could tell he was already winning the man in the suit over. There was a familiar look of hope and excitement in his eyes that gave it away.
Rip was clearly persistent, and wouldn't stop until he had given maximum effort, so he continued pushing forward. "If you don't follow me, this is what is in store for your world one hundred and fifty years from now." He waved his hand and a hologram appeared in the air.
What it depicted turned her blood cold.
Ships in the sky fired down on a city already engulfed in flames. Ash and smoke filled the air as building after building crumbled to the ground. Mey envisioned the whole world full of chaos and destruction. Pain and death and misery, with no end in sight. All hope for salvation gone, floating away like the sparks that shot into the night sky as the earth dissolved into madness. She could see it all, and it almost brought her to her knees.
"I could have chosen any time, and any place. Of all the people who ever lived, I chose you nine, and I certainly hope that you won't let me . . . and the world, down," he said after the images faded. "If your answer is yes, meet me at this address in thirty-six hours." He handed a slip of paper to Dr. Stein and then walked away, leaving the nine chosen to make up their minds.
Mey marched up to see what was written on the paper right away. Immediately memorized, she turned her attention to Kendra, who was practically running away from Stein. Like was a bomb about to explode. When she caught up to the reborn priestess, she tapped her shoulder to get her attention. "Not interested in saving the world?"
The woman narrowed her eyes. "I'm not sure."
Mey shrugged, nodding, then asked the question she really cared about. "So before, when Rip was talking about Savage, you said that The Flash helped you defeat him, right. But I was there too, and I did just as much work, so I was wondering why you didn't mention me. Is it because I'm a woman? Because I'm not from here?"
Kendra shook her head and somehow Mey knew that she wasn't going to like the answer she was about to get. "The Flash is Central City's hero, you're just not the same thing. He runs really fast and saves people, and you just destroy things. You're trying to help, but no one will ever be able to forget what you did. As long as some people still think you're the villain, adding your name into the mix just isn't worth it."
Mey's heart was pounding so fast she thought it might leap from her chest when Kendra finished explaining herself. She was afraid if she spoke she would lose control of her own voice, so she stayed silent as Kendra walked away. At some point, she had clenched her hands, and when the pain brought on by Kendra's brutally honest words hurt too much to bear, she - without meaning to - allowed energy from her core to shoot out into the ground.
A fissure about six feet long opened up at her feet, and for a moment the ground shook violently. Immediately, Mey could feel seven pairs of eyes on her back, and she didn't dare turn to meet their stares. Kendra was right. She would never be a hero to Central City.
And when Snart laughed as he shoved past her on his way off the roof, he didn't need to say anything for her to know what he was thinking. What they might all be thinking. She was no better than him.
