Wind blew the leaves at Maya's feet up into the air as she walked through the empty lot, looking for any sign of life. As she stepped around a pothole filled with rainwater, she wondered if she had made a mistake in trusting the word of someone who could certainly be a madman.
She was early, and no one else had arrived yet. The frigid air stung her face as she paced up and down the length of the asphalt. Kendra's words the nights before had hit her impossibly hard, and for a while she had felt like the scared girl Barry had found not too long ago. Now Maya had bounced back, and she would be incredibly irritated if she had to stand alone in the cold for much longer.
Maya felt guilty that she was leaving, and guilty that she couldn't be the person her friends had wanted her to be. But she was excited by the prospect of a fresh start, so she stayed where she was until she heard the sound of a car engine, and the blonde turned to see Professor Stein pulling up in his silver convertible.
She approached the vehicle and upon closer inspection, saw Jefferson passed out in the passenger seat. After the older man was out of the car she opened her mouth to speak. "Martin, did you drug and kidnap him?" She asked, gesturing towards the unconscious body. There was no way Jax had just fallen asleep on the ride over.
"Perhaps, but he'll thank me later."
"Oh I'm sure he'll have something to say to you, but I'm not sure 'thank you' is what you should be expecting." She would have continued speaking, but a familiar voice cut through the air before she could.
"Professor! This is the place?"
Maya turned and was surprised to see everyone from the rooftop meeting walking towards her. Not a single person hadn't showed up.
"I think we're being punked . . . do people still say punked?"
"No."
"I see your buddy threw himself a going away party," Mick commented as he saw the state Jax was in.
Maya didn't like the man or his partner, so she stifled her laugh.
"Yes, I believe he drank something that didn't quite agree with him." Stein said, putting the card with the address on it away in his pocket.
"You don't look too excited to be here either," Maya said to Kendra, who was sporting a rather unpleasant frown on her face.
"Perceptive as ever." Kendra said, before the sight of Rip Hunter sent everyone into silence.
"Well, I see you've all decided to come. I suppose we can be on our way then." The man said rubbing his hands together excitedly.
Snart crossed his arms defiantly, "I aint footing it anywhere."
"A Timemaster's sacred charge is to do no harm to the timeline. Can you imagine what a timeship would look like in say, Victorian England?"
"Holographic indigenous camouflage projection." Stein spoke with wonder.
"Indeed," Rip nodded, pointing to the empty space behind him and pressing the button on the remote he was holding.
A massive ship materialized before Maya's eyes, and she was almost more impressed than she was when Barry told her he was the fastest man alive.
"It's called the Waverider. It's been my ship for over a decade." He turned back to the group and gestured to the loading dock, "Shall we?"
