Hello. So I haven't really updated this story in a while. Even though no one really reads this stuff I just want to say I had the song nightmare by avenged sevenfold in my head at the time. Hence the title, so enjoy
Max turned in his sleep. He didn't know it at the time, but as he slept, dark things were happening. Deep within the thoughts that lie in his head, he found himself in a dream.
A nightmare
In his dream he battled an army, every single man against him. Within it, were Scotti, Galician Knights, Temuji, Genovesans, and so many others he had no knowledge of. At his feet, the lifeless bodies of Will and Jack. On his own, his quiver slowly emptied, even with the arrows he retrieved from his friends. No matter how many men he could slay 20 more appeared at the hilltops to take their places. Then over the west ridge, appeared an archer. If he were closer he would be able to see it was Halt, the trainer of Will. Halt fired a shot and Max saw it, but he saw it far too late. The arrow was aimed right at Max's eye, and as it got closer, Max became white, and the arrow got closer, and closer, and closer, and...
Max sat bolt right up in his bed. To his right the floor, and to his left his wife Grace. Still sound asleep. That was the fifth time he'd had that nightmare. He feared it would someday come true but just like anyone would, hoped it would not.
The sun had begun to shine over the horizon, but Max couldn't sleep, in fear of his dream picking up where it left off. Grace woke up and made her way out of their room. They ate breakfast and talked. But Max soon donned his cloak, and met up with Jack. It was their weekly hunting trip, and this one happened to be the biggest one of the year. They had to gather food for the tenth month's feast. Enough to feed Araluen and the neighboring kingdoms. So they were joined by Will, Halt, Horace, Gillan, and Madelyn. Each able to carry enough food for one royal family. This trip had been a tradition since Will joined the ranger task force, and had been made easier with every new ranger that became part of the corps. It was a fun tradition but the animals slowly disappeared. So it would be the last year for a while.
While the others caught up with each other, Max remained silent, and unwilling to talk to anyone. The hunt seemed to last forever, and Max filled his bag almost instantly. He returned to the castle and dropped his food off in the kitchen. He returned to his room with Grace, where he finally spoke about his dream. She consoled him and she stayed with him, until he fell asleep, only for him to wake up within the hour. Nothing could explain why he was having this nightmare.
Nothing yet
