Chapter 13

Re-killing the Demon

"Oh lighten up Maxy." His voice shivers down my spine as I stare at the lifeless body in front of me. It has been a week since this nightmare started and it has been complete hell. Every nightmare he forces he to kill someone that I love. Although it's not real it feels real, every minute of it feels real. Their screams and cries for me to stop sound so real.

This time Bates ordered me to kill my father and I almost gave up because it hurt so much. The longer it takes for me to kill them the longer I stay asleep.

I ignore Bates as I turn away from my fathers bloodied body and slump down into the ground and wait for the nightmare to be over. I hear his footsteps to the right side of me but don't react. He sighs as he slumps down next to me, jerking my chin up to look at him.

Bates smirks at me as I stare daggers at him. "Hmm I can't wait until tomorrow your next target is my favorite." Chuckling as he traces his finger across my jaw and down to my shoulder. I want to jerk away so bad but I can't or I have to stay here longer. Seeing that I'm not going to react, Bates picks up my wrist and bites making everything turn black.

I open my eyes slowly as the morning light fills the room. I glance to my side to see blue eyes staring back at me. I'm not the only one that has trouble sleeping now that this curse has taken over. Dustin's wolf is so restless and on edge that Dustin hasn't been able to get but maybe a few hours of sleep. I lift my wrist up slowly to see the new mark that has been left of my skin.

My eyes tear up without meaning to and Dustin pulls me into his bare chest instantly. We lay like that for a while as I wait for my tears to dry out. Once they do silence fills the room and it makes me want to start sobbing once again. But a knock on our bedroom door prevents me from doing so.

Dustin sits up slowly removing his arms from me as he stands. He opens the door to reveal a panting, wide eyed Eric. I get up from the bed quickly and go to Eric's side. "What's wrong, are you okay?" I ask quickly and Eric looks up at me with a small smile. He waves me off as he tries to catch his breath. Once he does he stands up straight and clears his throat.

"We found something." When those three words come out of his mouth the first smile I've had since this nightmare happened stretches across my face. For once this week you can see Dustin's tense shoulder's relax. For the past week Eric, Tucker, and Dustin have been searching for answers about how to stop the nightmares. But because of Dustin's position as alpha he hasn't been able to help as much as he wants.

"What did you find?" Dustin demands and Eric glances at him. I've noticed since Eric returned that he's been jealous over him. The thought of Dustin, the most powerful alpha, being jealous makes me laugh.

"Tucker and I found an old book about Demigods and it explained everything. It explained that when the victim has these nightmares that the victim must re-kill the Demigod to finish him off for good." Eric explains and I feel my smile fall as quickly as it came. "What's wrong Max?" Eric asks with a frown as he notices the change in my features.

"Killing Bates in my dreams is impossible." I state now staring at the wall blankly. "He controls everything, and what if I attempt to kill him but fail? He could never allow me to wake up." Both of the male werewolves are silent as the stare at me. "I'll do it." I finally whisper into the silence of the room.

"No. We'll find another way." Dustin says bluntly and I give him a look. Dustin stares back at me with his dark, blue eyes wanting me to submit. But me nor my wolf was having it as we stared back at him.

"I'd rather die than to continue having these nightmares, Dustin." I say sternly and that causes Dustin's hard eyes to soften. My mate sighs and nods slowly not breaking our eye contact.

Eric clears his throat and that makes us break our eye contact. "There is more of the book we haven't read. Tucker's actually working on it right now so there may be another solution." He says softly and I nod.

It's been three hours and we haven't found anything else. I sigh laying the book on my lap as I rub my tired eyes. I've been trying to keep my eyes open for the past hour but I keep slipping. But as I lay there my eyes become so heavy that I can't even open them. I groan trying to wake my body up but I'm dragged into darkness.

**********

I open my eyes to see the living room again, the room I've seen every time I'm dragged into this nightmare. I hear a chuckle to my left and look to see Bates with his usual smirk. "I decided I couldn't wait any longer so bring on the show." He barks out a laugh and I tense as I see a very familiar face.

"Hey Max." Tucker says with a huge grin on his face and my eyes fill with tears.
