∞ Flashback: Chapter continues where it last ended ∞
The door swung open so swiftly that my hand was still left hanging in the air mid-knock. Standing right in front of me, still hidden slightly by the shadows of the house was my batty old grandmother.
"Eve? My child, it is you! For a moment there my dear I thought it was your mother, but I knew it couldn't have been because that would require time-travel and I haven't done something like that in years-" And here we go again with the mumbo-jumbo shit she was always on about.
I barely acknowledged my grandmother, instead rolling my eyes barging past her into the dimly lit house. Crossing the doorway I make a beeline for the stairs but a hand grabs the back of my shoulder. By the claw-like shape of them I could tell it was the old woman.
Despite her old age, her grip was firm and she had the strength to pull me down from the one stair I had managed to already climb. "Not so fast, dearie, I have a few things I want to discuss with you first."
I rolled my eyes again and drop my rucksack to the ground. Instantly a cloud of dust surrounds me, and I'm coughing my lungs up. It takes almost all my willpower not to let out a screech at the old bat to clean her bloody house for once. Turning to face her I raise my eyebrow and gesture sarcastically with my hands for her to begin her rants and ravings.
"First off: there will be no swearing in my house, whether you speak it or not I will know whether you have. Is that clear? Good. Second of all, if I ask you to do something you will follow that command immediately and without question. You disobey me and I will turn you into a turtle- that way you have an excuse for being slow and unresponsive."
My mouth hands open at her in shock. If I thought she was a bloody nut-job before, there was no doubting it now. As if she could tell where my thoughts were heading, Grandma Lottie's mouth pursed tightly and squinted her eyes at me in distaste.
She continue to stare at me and it wasn't until minutes of silence later did I realise she was expecting some form of reply. Letting out a huff I nod my head, only to appease her. Bloody noodles for brains, this one my subconscious drawls.
Lottie's hand slapped the back of my head the moment I had that thought. Letting out a squeak of surprise I mouth a clear 'what the fuck?!'. With a face like thunder and hands clawed beside her I watched as she spoke darkly. Lottie's voice has changed from it's usual airy-fairy tone to one I hadn't heard her use before. "I do not have noodles for brains, you little brat!" It radiated power and authority. In that one sentence she became someone I didn't want to get on the wrong side of.
Wait.
How in Hell had she known I was thinking that? My mouth hangs open once more in shock. She can read minds now? This day was getting weirder and weirder as it went on.
"Yes I can read mines, Eve, but that is only a small part of what I can really do. I can do things beyond your wildest hopes and dreams. And when you leave, you will to. I have to pass my legacy onto someone after all, why not you?"
I felt my eyes widen, and the cogs I my mind began to turn faster and faster. She can do things beyond my wildest hopes and dreams? I felt a grin begin to creep onto my face. Why go that big? Why not start with something smaller, something that I wished and hoped for every single day.
Michael.
