Jacob's Point of View

Eternity, that's how long it felt like I have been sitting here! No one has come out of the emergency wing to tell us how Luca is doing. Not even Councilman Mathew can get in! We don't what happened, how bad it is, or if he is even going to live! I AM GOING INSANE FROM WORRYING ABOUT HIM! I JUST WANT HIM TO BE OK.....I want to be able to see him and hug him again.

It had been about three hours since the Councilman had brought me here. I spent the entire time pacing, muttering pleads, and trying to find out something about Luca's condition. But mostly I was trying to hold in my tears, I had cried enough. "Jacob, why don't you sit down and rest" proposed the Councilman. I shook my head and said "I need to do something since I can't be in there with him!" "Well do you at least want me to get some ice for your neck?" he said obviously not happy about my response. "My neck?" I asked genuinely confused. "Yeah your neck....that now has the image of a chain burned into it" he said raising his eyebrows.

Oh that's right I had completely forgot about my new brand, "That's ok I don't feel it anymore." We continued our silent wait. Meanwhile, my mind started playing out all the possibilities of what would happen once they were done in there. They could say that everything is fine and that he will just need rest (my desired outcome). But, they could also say that he is scarred for life (not so good). Though the worst possible thing that could happen is they come out and say that he died, which made holding back my tears harder as I thought this over and over.

"Jacob, it's going to be ok. He's gotten through a lot in his life" said the Councilman trying to comfort me. "Wh-what do you mean?" I asked with my voice cracking just a bit. His eyes got wide and he gave me a confused look before he said "you mean he hasn't told you?" "Told me what?" I asked with my curiosity and fear growing at the same time. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything" he said casting his gaze towards the doors. "Please sir, tell me what?" I asked sitting beside him. "It's not my place to tell, I'm sorry Jacob but Luca should be the one to tell you" he said as a doctor came through the doors.

"Councilman Mathew, may I speak to you sir about Mr. Luca?" asked the doctor. The Councilman nodded a yes before getting up and following the doctor. I was about to go with them before the Councilman told me to 'stay put'. I remained sitting, except my leg kept bobbing up and down, as I tried to listen in on their conversation. All I was able to hear was "critical condition" and "nothing more we can do." My heart broke and my stomach leaped into my throat when I heard those words.

"Jacob, my boy, follow me" said the Councilman as he came back over with a grave look on his face. I followed him down the hall to a room. I didn't talk on the way there because I was trying to sort out through my emotions, Luca could possibly die! We stopped outside the door and the Councilman turned around saying "this is Luca's room. Now, I need you to understand that he is hurt VERY badly and is resting. So when we go inside I need you to stay calm, can you do that Jacob?" I nodded a yes, not trusting my voice because every word that he had said was making me feel more and more scared.

He opened the door and let me go in first, but I wish that he hadn't. I walked in and saw the pale, lifeless boy in bed and I nearly fell to the ground. My tears fell freely down my face but I made no sound, no movement, no anything as I stared at the boy, that I had com to care so much about, hooked up to dozens of machines. He had a cast on one of his arms and bandages on the other. The worst though was that the top half of his head was covered completely in bandages. The Councilman came up behind me and put a hand on my shoulder saying "are you alright Jacob?" I nodded yes slowly and made my way to the chair beside Luca just as slowly, not taking my eyes off of him.

"Wh-what happened s-sir?" I choked out after a couple of minutes of silence. "He was shot in the head while he was at the lab this morning. Then there was an explosion. which he somehow managed to survive. They were able to repair the physical damage, but his mind needs time to heal."  HE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD AND CAUGHT IN AN EXPLOSION! I looked at his face and thought for a moment that he wasn't  even alive, he had no emotion on his face. "Doctors said he's lucky to be alive" explained the Councilman. Alive. That's right he's still alive, even if barely, and that means he has a chance to get better! I wiped my eyes dry as I said "he'll get better, he has to!" The Councilman smiled at me and said "alright, I am trusting him with you. Help him wake up!"
