"I'm gonna freak out." Said Lucas before class began.
"Relax. Just look for the differences." Said Farkle.
"There are none." Said Riley. "I swear, this girl is her twin."
"Relax. It couldn't be Maya. That is not possible."
"Can we stop talking about her!" Yelled Lucas, putting his hands on his head. "Just stop saying her name."
"Sorry." Said Farkle.
"Thank you." The group fell in silence as Lucas tried to clear his mind of the memories that came in flashes. The things he had said echoed in his head. The last time he saw her. When Riley told him she had ran. Everything.
"Alright class." Said Mr.Matthews, over the whispers. "We have new student today. Her name is Sophia Reed." Lucas dared a look and then immediately regretted it. It was as if someone had taken Maya, stuck her on someone else and let her be for two years.
"May I be excused."
"Yes, Lucas. You may." He got up and left.
"You can sit right next to the window in the second row." Sophia nodded and sat down. Her head ached and memories flashed through her brain but she pushed them out. She wasn't Maya. No one could know that she was. If they did, the bullying would start again. The threats would become actions. Cory began his lesson and a few minutes later, Lucas walked back in, avoiding looking at her, and sat down. She sat at the desk next to him but averted his eyes. After the bell rang and most people left, Riley and Farkle walked up to her.
"Sorry about Lucas. You look a lot like my old best friend and he sorta had a thing for her."
"What? Then why did he- nevermind."
"What was it?"
"Nothing. What's you name?"
"Farkle." Sophia smiled and nodded.
"You didn't laugh."
"Oh. Well, it's not that weird."
"Ya, right."
"What class do you have next."
"Art."
"Cool, so do I. I'll show you the way there." Sophia nodded and followed her.
"So where are you from?"
"Pensilvania."
"Lived there your whole life?"
"Yep. What about you."
"From here, always lived here. Here we are. You can sit next to me. There are no arranged seats." Sophia nodded and sat down. They had to draw a bird. Sophia zoned out almost entirely for half of the class.
"Wow, Sophia. You really have talent." She was shaking her head. "This is going to sound crazy but are you real."
"Uh, ya?" She said, pretending to be confused.
"Sorry. I'm just. I don't even know. Is that your sketchbook?" She asked, pointing at the binder, folder, and of course sketchpad.
"Uh, ya."
Shoot. Maya had that one.
"It's a pretty common sketchbook. A lot of people have it."
"Apparently. Could I look in it?"
"Sorry, I don't share my drawings."
"Okay." She said, sadly.
