The last time that Riley opened the door for someone wearing the same upset yet scared expression, was Maya. And that was the day she ran away. Now it was Sophia standing before Riley at her door and Riley was terrified.
"What's wrong?"
"May I come inside?"
"Ya. Come in. What is it?" Sophia stopped and turned to Riley. They stared at each other for a moment. Cory and Topanga watched the girls from the kitchen, knowing what came next.
"I can't say it." She said, looking over to them. "Actually..." She turned back to Riley. "I don't have to." She pushed her hair back and grabbed onto the chain around her neck, pulling what was on the end of it out from between her sweater and tank top and pulling it over her head. Riley hadn't seen what was on the end of it.
"Sophia?" She asked, confused. Sophia lifted Riley's hand up and placed it in it, then removing her hand, removing the familiar silver locket. Riley looked at her hand. She would have recognized it anywhere at anytime. It was Maya's locket.
"Maya?" Asked Riley in a whisper.
"Ya, Riley. It's me." Said Maya. Riley quickly placed the locket down on the couch and pulled her into a huge hug as she began to cry. Maya hugged her back. After at least a minute, they separated.
"How could you put me through that?" She asked, still crying.
"I'm sorry, Riley. It got too bad. Too serious."
"What did?"
"The bullying."
"You were being bullied?"
"Ya."
"You should have just told us. Farkle, Lucas and I could have helped."
"Lucas started it."
"He did what!"
"He's not the ones that- that made me run away. He just began the cycle. It was bound to happen. Even if it wasn't by him."
"I can't believe he did that. I'll deal with that later. I still can't take it in that your here and your you." She hugged her again.
"Riley."
"Ya?" She said, stepping back.
"You don't know how important it is that this stays a secret."
"You think the bullying is gonna start, again?"
"I'm being threatened, Riley. I'm being threatened being Sophia. When I'm Maya, I might get killed."
"Maya! You're being threatened and you didn't tell anyone?" Said Topanga, standing up.
"You don't have to see a gun being held to your head to know it's there. Although, they did that too." She said, looking away.
"What are there names?" Asked Cory.
"I don't know which ones the actual threats were from. Actually, I don't know any names of anyone either."
"You're gonna stay Sophia until we figure this out with the school."
"I don't think that I can ever be Maya again. I'm terrified."
"You can be Maya in this apartment. You can always be Maya. Outside of this apartment, you're still Maya but we call you Sophia." Said Topanga.
"Okay."
"Happy birthday, peaches." Said Riley.
"Thanks, Riles."
"Does anyone else know who you are?"
"I just left my sketchbook at Lucas's. It has sketches dated back to eighth grade and signed 'Maya.' Oh no."
"What?"
"I never actually spoke to him. I was afraid that he would be too mad. He might tell." She ran out of the apartment. Topanga tried to get ahold of Lucas as Riley and Cory looked for Lucas and Maya. All failed and Lucas had told Zay.
"Wanna hear a great Sophia story?"
