Chapter 3

Morning...

Kayla POV

I woke up, hearing soft snores. I looked next to me, remembering Riker was here. He looked really peaceful. I smiled to myself, looking at him.

I thought he was cute, and really sweet. He's the kind of boy I'd want to date. But no one would ever date me. I don't talk.

I got out of bed, and went downstairs. There was about a foot of snow outside. I grabbed a cereal bar and had that for breakfast.

I went back upstairs to find Riker still asleep. I got back in bed and pulled out my laptop. I plugged in my headphones, and watched Netflix.

Later...

Riker POV

I woke up, and looked at Kayla's bed. Kayla was on her laptop, watching something. I slowly sat up, feeling aches in my back from sleeping on the floor.

"Good morning," I said, stretching.

Kayla smiled at me.

"Do you want breakfast?" Kayla texted me.

"Yeah, I'm really hungry actually."

Kayla led me downstairs, and showed me some of my options. I chose cereal.

After breakfast, we went back to the physics project. And then I went home before lunch.

Monday...

Riker POV

Our project was due on Friday, so we had to finish it sometime before then. We had some calculations to do, and then we had to place a target, and drop a ball out the window and film it. Not too much, but it was still kind of a lot.

I sat down next to Kayla in the cafeteria. My friends didn't want me to go sit with her. We were some of the more popular kids, and they didn't want me 'mixing with the wrong people.' But I honestly didn't care about popularity. I didn't choose it. It just sort of happened.

So I left their table, and went to sit with Kayla, who was sitting at a table in the back all alone.

"Hey," I said, sitting down across from her.

She looked up at me, giving me a small smile. And then I got a text.

"Ditch the girl, and come back. What are you doing over there?" One of my friends texted.

I shoved my phone back in my pocket, not caring.

"So we need to finish the project before Friday. Are you free today?"

Kayla took out her phone, and texted me.

"I'm free, but we can't do it at my house. My room is being painted."

"Oh, that's fine. We could do it at mine. We can't throw the ball out the window, but we can finish the calculations and write up the report and stuff."

I wrote down my address, and gave it to Kayla.

"Do you know where this is?" I asked.

She shook her head no.

"Right, you're new here. I forgot. Um... I can meet you at your house, and we could walk to mine together if you wanted."

Kayla nodded.

"Awesome. I'll walk over after school. Is that cool?"

She nodded.

"Awesome."
