Chapter 8

The next day...

Riker POV

There hadn't been time all day to ask Kayla about last night until right now. Lunch.

I sat on Kayla's side of the table this time, hoping to avoid any conflicts with my old table members.

"So um... How was last night?"

Kayla shrugged her shoulders.

"Did they do anything to you?"

She shook her head no.

"Did they threaten you or anything?"

No, again.

"Well tell me if they do... Did you want to hang out after school today?"

She nodded.

"Great. Whose house?"

She pointed to me.

"Ok. Do you have to ask your parents or anything?"

She nodded, and took out her phone. I assumed she was texting her parents.

After a few minutes, she showed me her phone. It was a text, saying she could go to a friend's house after school.

"Great."

A few minutes later, my old table members walked up to us. Oh no...

"Why have you been ignoring our texts, Lynch?"

"I-I don't have my phone."

"Why not?"

"I got it t-taken away."

"Really?"

"I swear! I don't have it!"

They walked around the table until there were inches from me.

"Well we're going to text you tonight, telling you how to prepare for tomorrow, so it's your choice if you want to read them or not. Otherwise, tomorrow, you die, Lynch."

I realized I'd leaned backwards, away from them, and I was almost too close to Kayla. But the guys left, and I sat back up straight, sighing in relief that they left.

"Sorry about that... I just got scared they were going to hit me or something."

Kayla hugged me, and I hugged her back.

I leaned my head on my hand, closing my eyes. I didn't want to deal with them.

Kayla took my other hand, making me open my eyes. She mouthed the words 'are you ok' and I shook my head no.

I was scared. I wasn't ok.

Later...

Kayla POV

I was walking home from school with Riker. When we got to his house, we went up to his room.

"So I'm not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow... I don't want them to kill me."

Riker laid down on his bed. I sat on the edge, looking at him. He looked back at me.

"I'm just scared, ok? I've never been in a situation like this before. I feel like telling someone would make the situation worse. They'd just gang up on me even more..."

Riker looked really upset. I wasn't really sure what to do either.

"Do you want to stay for dinner?" Riker asked.
