Chapter 10

Riker POV

I was still staring into Kayla's eyes. My heart was pounding.

Her mom called us for dinner again, and that seemed to snap us back into reality.

Kayla quickly opened the door, still holding my hand, and pulled me downstairs.

Later...

Riker POV

Dinner was awkward. Kayla and her mom were signing to each other, and I didn't really understand much. After that, she told her mom she was going to my house to watch a movie, and then we left.

All I could think about was the kiss. Did she like? Did she hate it? Did it mean nothing to her?

I wish I knew!

As my first kiss, it felt amazing, but that was partly because I had feelings for her. I really wanted to talk about it, but I had no idea when the right time for that would be. Kayla seemed to have forgotten, so I decided now was not the right time...

I made some popcorn, and put it in a bowl. I grabbed some blankets from my room, and brought them downstairs. Kayla and I sat next to each other on the couch. I had spread the blankets out over both of us, and put the popcorn on my lap.

"So um... What movie?" I asked.

Kayla didn't do anything. She just stared at me.

"Um... Do you like scary movies?"

She took out her phone, and typed in her notepad app.

"Only if you're going to protect me."

I laughed.

"Yeah, sure. How about this one?" I asked.

Kayla nodded.

"Alright."

The movie got pretty scary pretty quickly. I had my arm around Kayla, and she was leaning on my shoulder.

I was a little scared, but not as scared as Kayla. As the movie went on, it was like she couldn't get close enough to me. She was leaning on my chest now, and had one arm across me, holding on. I had both my arms around her.

Ross POV

"Are you sure you don't want to help us scared Riker and his girl?" Rocky asked Rydel.

"I'm sure. That's mean."

"Is not! It's funny," Ryland said.

"Whatever. If you guys get in trouble, it's your own faults."

I snuck down the stairs with my brothers. Riker and Kayla were on the couch, facing away from us, watching a scary movie.

We snuck closer until we were right behind the couch. Rocky held up his fingers, silently counting to 3.

"BOO!"

Riker screamed this really high pitched scream, which was hilarious. I was surprised Kayla didn't scream though.

Riker POV

Not only was I kind of embarrassed for the sound I'd just made, but I really wanted to kill my brothers!

I shot up from the couch, and ran towards them. They all ran upstairs, and locked themselves in mine and Rocky's room.

I went back downstairs. Kayla handed her phone to me.

"I want to go home," Kayla had written.

"Are you sure? I'm so sorry about them. They're idiots. I'll get them in trouble tomorrow when I tell my mom."

Kayla took her phone back, and typed something else.

"I'm sure. Would you please walk me home?"

"Yeah..."

I walked Kayla up to her front door. She didn't even look back at me.

"Kayla, wait! I'm sorry! It wasn't my fault. It was my stupid brothers."

Kayla stared at me for a minute, and then went inside.

I walked back to my house, feeling upset. Once I was inside, I ran up to my parents' room.

"Mom! Rocky, Ross, and Ryland totally just ruined my movie night!" I said, upset.

"How?" My mom asked.

"Kayla and I were watching a scary movie in the living room. And they all snuck down there and yelled boo! And right after that, Kayla went home, even though we were only halfway through the movie."

"Alright, go tell you brothers to come in here."

I left my mom's room, and went to go find my brothers. They were all in mine and Rocky's room.

"Mom wants to see you guys," I said, walking in.

"Riker, look. We're really sorry," Ross said.

"You ruined the night, Ross! You all did! Kayla went home!"

"We're sorry, Riker," Rocky said.

I just shook my head, grabbed some pajamas, and went to go take a shower. I seriously can't believe them sometimes.

As I stood under the burning hot water, I couldn't stop thinking about Kayla. And the kiss. We still hadn't really acknowledged it, and with everything that just happened, I'm scared she's going to pretend it never happened! I mean, she went home!

"Ugh..."
