Sitting in that waiting room felt like eternity for Emilia. Every time the double doors opened, Emilia felt her heart drop. Not knowing if her sister was going to make it out alive brought back many terrible memories for Emilia, the memories where last time her sister forgot her. In that moment Emilia would do anything for that moment to return. Emilia wouldn't care if her sister had no idea who she was, all that would matter was that Addison was safe.
Chase was in a similar boat. He had already lost one sister in his short life, and was hoping that Evolet would be fine, even though he knew that if she did pass she would have spent the last few conscious moments of her life comforting Addison as thats what she did in life, no matter who the person was. Bad or good, she would comfort them and always check that they where okay. She would be the child who stood up to the school bullies picking on the 'unpopular' child only to be bullied herself for doing so.
Emilia hoped that whatever the outcome was, that it would not effect Emilia and Chase's relationship, or the relationships between both families and there would no blaming on either of the families parts.
Ethan sat there, not moving a muscle thinking back to that very promise that he made while holding Addison for the very first time. The promise that nothing would ever happen to her and that he would always be there to protect her, which is why he alway made the effort to make her smile, or do whatever it took for her to know that he cared about her and thats all.
A tall doctor walked over to the family, sitting in front of them, with a grim look on his face. Emilia started feeling her heart rate speed up. She had watched to many hospital shows to know what was about to happen. She knew what ever news was about to pass onto them was not good news and was beginning to prepare herself for the worst.
"Unfortunately, there were to many complication during the surgery, and we where unable to save her ... leg so we had to amputate. There is also a 95% chance she will be paralysed due to injury to the spinal cord. I apologise. However with the right physiotherapy she should be able to live a normal healthy life. You may go in and see her, she may be a little groggy, but that is just the anesthetic and it should wear of in the next 3 to 4 hours.
"Thank you," Emilia said with a sigh of relief, trying not to cry. Knowing her sister was alive was one thing, but knowing that she may be paralysed and it was a majority of her fault made it worse. The hatred for the attacker grew stronger and right now she could never see herself for it.
"I broke my promise too her," Ethan said getting out of his seat angry, wanting to punch something to relieve the anger building in him.
"She has been hurt and its my fault. If I had of protected her none of this would have happened, If I had of protected her..." Ethan said before collapsing into the ground, crying hysterically.
"Hey, you haven't broken your promise. I'm sure she won't think that. She loves you far too much and will always love you know matter what happens, I promise," Emilia said, sitting beside her older brother, rubbing his back, trying to comfort him.
"I think we should go in and see her," Ethan said sitting up and rubbing the tears out of his eyes. "I don't want her too know I've been crying. I don't want her to think she's hurt me," Ethan said looking at his concerned sister.
"Hey Darling," Their mother said in a shaky voice as they entered the white room - the white room that they have seen too much in the past year.
"How you feeling?" Emilia asked while sitting down beside her younger sister picking up the fragile small hand, and stroking the top of it.
"Sore," Addison said as the nurse explained to their mother that there was a chance Addison would start to feel phantom pains in her stump as she got used to the feeling of only having one leg.
"Where's Dad?" Addison asked starting to get rather worried while counting the number of heads in one room.
Emilia looked at her mother before looking at her younger sister before having to softly remind her that her father passed away many years ago, before being broken off by a familiar scream from the hall way. Chase.
Emilia looked at her family before gently before running out into the hall, to see a broken Chase, lying on the ground crying historically. Emilia ran over to him picking him up in her arms.
"She is gone. She is really gone" Chase said while crying into Emilia's shoulder.
It was at that point where Emilia realised how grateful she was. Grateful for the fact that Addison was still alive, even though she may be paralysed, and even though she was an amputee, she was still alive and that was all that mattered in the moment.
"The doctor said...that... Evolet, jumped in front of Addison in order.. to save her," Chase said looking up at Emilia. "She died a hero, the one thing she wanted in life, but now she's gone," Chase said with past feelings coming back. The last time he experienced this was when his other sister passed away, and now he was having to live it again.
"I just can't believe she's gone," Chase said while looking over at his parents who where comforting each other while holding one of their daughters last remaining items.
So I just wanted to apologise for the long wait between updates. There is one more chapter left before this story is finished. Anyway just wanted to thank you all for reading means a lot.
