Lizzie

Chapter 4

Lizzie's eyes fluttered open as she mumbled, "Ouch."

Everyone sighed in relief.

"Why does my does my arm hurt?" Lizzie asked.

Dr. James stepped forward and responded, "You had an operation on your arm. It'll hurt for a while and you'll have to take some medication for the pain, but other than that, you're perfectly fine. You have to come back in 3 weeks to get the stitches taken out."

Lizzie smiled and her family went to hug her. Lizzie looked at the doctor and mouthed "Thank you" silently. She let a tear fall down her face.

Dr. James mouthed back, "You're welcome," with a smile.

James walked down the hall and saw the pediatrician and boasted, "I was right. You were wrong."

Emily snorted and said back, "How"?

James responded, "You said she was crazy. There was a blood clot in her arm causing severe pain. That's why there were scratch marks. You, McGray, and Shane thought she was crazy."

Emily bit her lip and nodded for a moment, then said, "Sorry for debuting you."

James smiled. "Thank you." He then began walking away, but turned around and said "You know, McGray had her baby."

Emily smiled excitedly and asked, " Girl or boy?"

James grinned. "Girl."

Then James walked away to go see the new baby. Him and Haley and a couple of other doctors knocked on the door.

McGray said, "Come in."

They walked in and saw her holding her baby.

Then Lisa (another doctor) said, "Awwww. So cute! What's her name?"

McGray and Shane looked at each other and said, "Gabby Lizabeth Shane."

Lisa and James and the other doctors nodded their heads.

McGray looked down at her baby and said, "She's so beautiful and perfect."

Shane smiled at McGray and commented, "You did an amazing job. She is perfect."

The other doctors started clapping and brought in balloons and presents.

McGray and Shane smiled then Shane said to McGray, "Hold on. I'll be right back."

She nodded her head and Shane kissed her forehead and left.

A few minutes later, Shane wheeled someone in the room to see McGray and the baby and the other doctors went back to work. McGray looked at the door and smiled and said, "Hey! How did the surgery go?"

Lizzie nodded her head comfortable and said, "It took longer than we thought, but it went okay. I just can't believe you went into labor during it!"

McGray looked at Lizzie with a confused expression and asked, "How did you know that?"

Lizzie giggled and said, "Your husband told me, but I don't know why."

McGray smiled and said, "Well, at first, I didn't know why you're here until now. Dr. Shane must have brought you to meet the baby."

Lizzie smiled big and leaned forward to look at the baby. She asked, "What's her name?"

McGray chuckled and responded, "Gabby Lizabeth Shane."

Lizzie was shocked and stated, "Lizabeth is my full name. Nobody's called me that in years. Since I was five, actually. I was always Lizzie."

Shane walked over to them and said, " Lizzie you are a very sweet and strong girl." He stopped, then added, "Aaaaand you made my wife go into labor five days early, but she wanted the baby out anyways." Shane stood up and continued. "Okay. Since your family won't be back today, I'll wheel you back to your room."

Lizzie nodded her head and looked at McGray. "Thank you and congrats on the baby."

McGray nodded her head and smiled.

Shane wheeled Lizzie back to her room so she could get some sleep. As they came up to Lizzie's door, Shane look down and see that she fallen asleep. He chuckled softly and carried her to her bed. He put her down on her bed, pulled the covers over her and kissed her on her forehead, then shut the lights off and silently walked out.
