Benson's POV

Someone must've told a teacher or something, because the vice principal showed up, stopping them immediately. Calvin and his friends dropped the things in their hands and stepped away from us as if that would make them look less guilty.

"What's going on here?" our vice principal asked before taking a look at the mess in the hallway. Pieces of broken egg shells laid on the floor. The contents of the egg splattered onto the sides of the lockers and on the floor as well. Other things that they've thrown were also littered on the ground.

"They were throwing things at us, Ms. Smith," I glared at Calvin who shrunk back among his friends.

"This is unacceptable. I want all of you to come with me." What a mess. I could be in my office watching funny cat videos but no... I get called out to take care of this.. kids are so much trouble.. what a nuisance... Ms. Smith was an unmarried woman in her late 40's. Her age was already beginning to catch up with her, silver strands of hair on her head. She was always grouchy and very biased. From what I've heard from others, she favored guys who played sports over everyone else.

We all followed behind Ms. Smith to her office and went inside.

Her office was surprisingly neat and tidy. There was a small bookshelf in the corner with a plant next to it. A couple of filing cabinets were placed beside a wooden desk that had a desktop computer on it. Photos of cats were hung around the room- one was sleeping on its side, one was staring straight at the camera. I guess she was a cat person. Ms. Smith sat down in front of her desk and gestured for us to do the same.

Calvin took one of the two chairs that were in the room and before one of his friends could take the other one, I shoved him out of the way and sat on it. That friend who got pushed away held up a clenched fist at me and glared. You just wait.. you'll regret this...

I got back up and whispered for Abbie to sit there. "Here, you can sit down," I said with a small smile.

She shook her head and told me to sit. "No no no, you should sit." He took most of the hits... is he okay?.. his clothes.. all ruined and dirty... some of the egg yolks got on his face too...

"I don't need to sit, you take the chair," I insisted. "Hurry before that airhead jacks it." I glanced over at that friend who had wanted the seat and saw that he was watching us intently.

"Fine," she sighed and slowly sat down. He's kinda stubborn.. "Thanks." I stood beside her and leaned my arm on the chair.

Ms. Smith cleared her throat. "Now who wants to explain what happened out there?" She folded her hands over her desk and looked at each and every one of us with a hard stare.

No one said a word.

When I peeked at Abbie, I noticed that her hands were shaking. I quietly reached over to her quivering hands and covered them with mine. She turned and stared at me in surprise. I can't get in trouble... Dad is going to kill me... what if I get detention? Saturday school? or suspension?... I've only heard bad things about this vice principal... she was biased...

I gave her reassuring smile and patted her cold and still shaking hands.

"I'm waiting," Ms. Smith spoke up when there was still no answer. Do these kids not know how to answer a question?...

It was so quiet in her office that the ticking of the clock in her room could be heard clearly. One second passed, then another. A few more went by when someone spoke up.

"We were heading to the cafeteria together to grab some lunch when those two showed up. They blocked our path and started yelling at us," Calvin lied. "They insulted us, they started this. It wasn't our fault, Ms. Smith." Let's see if the rumors are true...
