Rose and Sam flew around the rotating tennis courts, beating all of their opponents. They were in an intense game of two on two, the score was tied, and things were getting heated.
The opposing team hit a hard one across the court, Rose have the signal that she had it, and lunged across the court. Sam looked over to see Rose falling. Her eyes opened wide as she realized where Rose was going to fall on her side, most likely cracking a rib and possibly a concussion. Sam screamed as Rose fell on her tennis racket, a brief moment of pain flashed across her face as the crack of her rib rang across the gym.
Sam ran over to her partner whilst screaming at others to get out of the way.
She moved the tennis racket out from underneath Rose, and began to feel her ribs for damage I always wanted to hug her, and be like this, but never in this manner. Three. Three broken ribs, possible concussion judging by the lump on her forehead-
Her thoughts were abruptly cut off as Sam was roughly shoved off Rose by the teacher. Minutes passed at the rate of hours. Finally, incoming sirens roared in her ears. Flashbacks began to play out in her head. She cut them off with a sharp pinch. She could not afford to panic now. She felt tears streaming down her face, as she couldn't do anything to help.
She knew that the paramedics wouldn't let her in the back of an ambulance with her, so all she could do was wait.
She slid down the wall, her vision blurring out.
Why of all things to happen did it have to be this?
Sam murked through the rest of the day, constantly thinking of Rose, what if something happened to her?
When school was finally out, Sam asked her mum if she could drive her to the hospital. It was better for Sam to see the damage, than assume it.
They drove in an awkward silence, so Sam put in her headphones, and tried to loose herself in the music. It wasn't working.
She gave up, and listened to her music, thoughts of Rose filling her head. When she got there, she told her mother that she was planning on staying with Rose's mother in the hotel next door. She strode into the front entrance, and learned that Rose was in pediatrics. Sam didn't need to wait for directions, she knew her way around.
She went to the desk in the pediatrics unit, and tried to ignore the smell of cleaners and bleach, a scent she had come to be all too familiar with. The nurse gave her an odd look when she asked to see Rose.  Sam didn't care, she just hurried to the proper room, wanting to see if Rose was alright.
She cautiously peeked in the door, still not understanding the queer look the nurse had given her.
Rose was pale. Very very pale. Sam rushed to her bedside and looked at her mothers sleeping figure on the chair next to her.
Sam looked at the monitor, checking the usuals. Her heart was steady, as was almost everything else. Rose got out of surgery hours ago. Sam thought, she must wake up sometime soon.
Sam pulled a concerned face, and looked at the patient information left strewn across the desk. What she saw there almost made her faint. Her eyes quickly and greedily scanned the paper. She knelt on the ground feeling faint.
"Oh no oh no oh no this can't be happening to me" she moaned. Crying already. Rose was in a medically induced coma with major brain damage. Sam cried, and curled up at the foot of the hospital bed. Not wanting to move for an eternity.
