Chapter 10

Chapter 10 : The room with the black paint.

The attic was a bust !

Rachel decided to start with the first door in the west wing .

"Who's room was this ?" She asked Adam who watched her enter the room .

"It's just an extra room bedroom," Adam answered.

The room was like any other room in the house . Cobwebs hung from the furniture and walls. The windows boarded up. A bed laid in the middle of the room. The walls were a

Pale pink except for a large spot over the bed was a coal black spot which seemed to pulse and grow as if it was alive "Why is part of the wall black?" She asked.

"One of the families child liked black I guess," he shrugged . He didn't seem to be interested in the black spot but as Rachel moved into the room . A unnerving eerie feeling surround itself around her. She tried to breathe to calm her heart but it felt she was underwater . Her chest was tight it was as if someone had tied a weight on it. But she had to found out what this awful feeling came from. She forced her feet to move . One step. Two step. Three step. Four step.

She made it towards the wall and felt the spot. She expected a boogeyman to Jump out but none did. She stood in the room looking around. The room was barren. A bed, a closet , a reading chair. She walked towards the closet. "Boom!" Cadence shouts from the hall. Rachel's heart jumps. She looks around the closet but like the room it's barren and alive with dust-bunnies.

"Why don't we go and searched the next room?" Adam suggest. He still stands out in the hallway with Cadence. Both seem tense and ready to run. But run from what?

"Fine, let's go check the other rooms," Rachel said. She left the closer door open as she left the room and into the next. When her back was turn the closet door closed as if a strong wind had pushed it closed,but there was none.

Mostly of the rooms were empty and by the sunrise Rachel was exhausted . She only slept for an hour or was it two? She didn't care she was tired anyway. And her father would surely be posted if he found out that she had snuck out of the house.

She said her goodbyes and promised to be back soon. Then she took off running.

She quiet open the back door, closed it, and tiptoed towards her bed. Thank god she thought as she slipped over her shoes .

When she made it home , her fathers car was parked nicely in the drive. She glanced around and found Vanessa on her porch watching her, she was slipping her morning coffee and rocking back and forth on her porch swing. She waved her hands and smiled. Rachel get her a half wave, half swat .

Just as Rachel laid herself under the blankets and her eyes drifted. Her father came in, "wakey wakey, eggs and bakey " she groans and rolls over. Her father shoves her shoulder,"look I know your mad at me , but Vanessa here and she says that her family is going to the movies and she ask if we wanted to join , I said sure. So get you sleepy head up and get dress. Oh and Jason is coming by the way." Her father gives a smirk.

She gets up and change into new clothing . Great, just great, now how am I going to help Adam and his family when I stuck with Vanessa and dad . She walked into the kitchen were May, Jason, and Vanessa all sat waiting at the kitchen table.

"Hey , Rach , rough night?" Jason says ,laughing . She smiled.

"You can say that again," she remarked.

"Ok, rough night," Jason repeated.

"Hello, Vanessa,and May," Rachel said . "So what movie are we seeing?"

"Well, if you want to go with me I'm seeing The Conjuring , " Jason said," or you can see Turbo with them, " he points to his mom and sister.

"I thought you would probably want to go with Jason and his friends, " Vanessa pipes in .

"If its ok with Jason, " she said. Jason nodded.

"Good, so we have two for The Conjuring and three for Turbo," Vanessa said.

The room turns dark as the movie begins.

Rachel watched as the group of football players became tense and nibbled on their popcorn. The guys were actually pretty cool after Jason told them Rachel was cool and that Maya was being a Bitch. They said sorry they all told Rachel that Maya said that Rachel was spreading rumors about her. Rachel thought that the excuse was totally ridiculous, but than again these are people who hit their heads too much that their brains are batter. So she just accepted their apologizes and went in with them.

By the middle of the movie Rachel had jumped at least four times and screamed once which made the whole audience scream than laugh. And the funny thing was that most of the football players jumped as well.

At the end Rachel thought ,could something in the Jones house posses me ? Could I just get rid of the Jones with the words of the bible? Was I like Lorraine Warren, a medium? Maybe? As they made their way out of the theatre . Jason half high-fives half hugs his buddies goodbye . They leave and Rachel and Jason walk over to their parents and Jason's sister who were next door at a pizzeria .

That night as she laid on bed she thought about the awful thing she got when she enter the room with the black spot. Just like Lorraine Warren when she enter the house of the Perron's. Could there be something evil in that room that could hurt me ? Maybe I should just read some verse from the bible and they'll be gone.No that can't work, the warrens may have dealt with evil spirits but I'm dealing with spirits who went to crossover. I won't give up on them. Rachel said to herself.

At one in the morning Adam sits watching Rachel . How could she be so peaceful? When she knows that ghost are as real as the air she breathes. All her nightmares are real. He watches her face, she face is relaxed, she lips are curled into a small smile.

He wants to wake her. He has thousands of questions to ask her . But he lets her sleep and disappears before she wakes.

Rachel looks around and found herself Sit on a swing in front of the Jones's house. Adam is behind her push her.

"Adam,look at the sky, those clouds over their look like two people dancing," Rachel said pointing to two clouds.

"It does,doesn't ? Look over there it looks like a dragon," he said looking at another cloud. Rachel nods,and Jumps over the swing.

The scene changes and Rachel is fourteen in her old apartment in the living room reading Nancy Drew . Her father is out late and her grandma is sleeping next to her on the sofa. At ten her father walks in he smells of alcohol and cigarettes. Four years after mom dies Rachel's grandma has been taking care of her and her son. But Rachel's father has been drinking since the day the church lowered Rachel's mom into the earth and covered it in dirt.

Rachel wake up breathing heavily . She hated those awful years when her father drank, but she knew that he never felt whole even after so and so bottle of beers. That's why after living in an apartment for seven years , her father realized he had to stop and become a father . That's why Rachel was here and her father seems happy. Rachel goes back to bed .
