Dan's POV
The walk home from St. Joseph's was absolutely miserable. To my disadvantage, the snow decided to come down earlier than expected. I waited and waited for the bus that never came and just as I pulled it out of my pocket, my phone died. I walked an hour and a half in the freezing cold, my socks are drenched by the time I get home. Yay me.
I walk up to our apartment quickly and set my keys on the table. I rub my hands together and kick my shoes off immediately.
"Lion, I'm home!" I shout while taking off my coat. The sound of rushed footsteps pitter patter to the small dining room area where I'm strip out of my sopping clothes.
"Where the hell have you been! I've tried ringing you so many times, I was worried sick!" Phil rushes to me.
"I'm so sorry," I hug him tightly and kiss his forehead. "I got caught in the snow and I had to walk, my phone died."
"You're gonna be sick!" Phil says while picking up my clothes. "Go put something warm on, I will make you some hot chocolate.."
I walk into our room and step into some warm pajama pants and pull a winter jumper over my pale torso. I look in the mirror at my horrific hair and sigh. Not how I wanted to come home to Phil.
I walk out and put my phone on charge in the living room. Phil walks in much calmer with a full mug and sets it on the table.
"I'm sorry I was short with you, you know I just get so worried." He sits on the couch and I do the same. "How did everything go today? You stayed an awful long time."
"I was talking to to this girl, Waverly. She's only thirteen, super shy. She opened up more than I expected though." I lay into him, resting my head on his shoulder as he wraps his arms around me. "She was so sweet. So timid around other people, I felt bad for her. She said she's only ever had one friend out of the six years she's been there."
"Only one? That's miserable! How come?" Phil turns down the TV then holds my hand.
"She said its not easy making friends. She seems really distant though, and she's different. Its like she's scared to talk to people. That's why I found it so odd that she asked me questions and she told me about herself.." I start to trail thinking about her parents.
"What did she ask you?" He rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand, he knows that makes me melt.
"Oh the cutest things! She honestly was so precious. And so polite as well. She asked if I had a girlfriend and I told her about you, if she was a viewer I would've known by then." I smiled and looked up at him.
"Why'd she want to know if you had a girlfriend?" Phil laughs lightly.
"Well I teased her about maybe liking a boy there and she asked if I had a girlfriend or boyfriend out of curiosity. But I laughed so hard, it was so cute because she was like 'have you ever kissed him?' And I was like ohh the innocence!" I laughed some more at the situation.
"Oh my goodness! If she only knew!" Phil laughed and rested his head on mine.
"I know right! Honestly I think she's very sheltered when it comes to that kind of stuff.. I was very careful with what I said around her. I told her yes that I definitely have kissed you and then, oh my god. She was like 'are you in love' and inside I was fangirling over how adorable this child is! Her voice was still like sweet and calm but it was like she was scared of saying something wrong."
I smiled so big and he grinned."Aww.. That's so sweet! What'd you say?"
"I told her that we are in love! And I told her that we live together. Then she asked what its like being in love. That's when my heart broke, she was like 'must be nice having someone that loves you' or something like that but I have a feeling she was talking about more than just a romance type of love." I sigh and rub my face, I don't want to start crying.
