~Chapter 27; Beside You

I walked into the lunchroom and found Sammy at a table with Jacob. Looks like this is something I'll have to get used to.

"Hi Sammy...Jacob." I said, sitting down with them.

"Hi," she said blushing, probably from something Jacob said. I could tell they were holding hands under the table. "Where's Harry?"

"I'm not sure.. he should be here soon." I replied.

"Well, I'll be right back. I have to go to the bathroom." Sammy said, getting up from her seat. Jacob sent her a smile as she walked off in the direction of  the bathroom.

His eyes shifted back to me and he examined me. I moved in my seat uncomfortably, hoping Harry would show up soon.

"You don't like me do you?" Jacob asked.

"W-What?" I replied.

"Look, I know what Adam did to you and trust me he's an asshole. No girl deserves to be treated like that. I'm not like Adam, so I hope you don't judge me by my brother's actions. Sammy said you weren't too fond of us, so I thought I'd clear it up." Jacob said.

"I'll be honest and admit that I thought you were just like your brother. You're right he is an asshole." I agreed.

"But that doesn't mean I am." he said. I opened my mouth but he spoke before any words could come out. "I'm not going to treat Sammy like that. I'm not going to hurt her. I'm not going to do that to anyone."

I nodded, not being able to think of a way to answer him. There was a thud on the bench next to me, as Harry sat down.

"Where's Sammy?" he asked.

"She went to the bathroom. She should return soon." Jacob said.

Harry nodded in response and turned to me. "How has your day been?"

"Average," I replied.

"Don't worry you only have a year left." he said, grinning back at me. Right? I forgot that Harry was a year older than me. He's graduating this year.

I groaned at him as a response and he began to chuckle. Sammy returned, sitting down next to Jacob.

"What did I miss?" she asked.

"Nothing, babe." Jacob replied. Sammy began to blush as Jacob had called her babe. I almost laughed at how easily effected she was by him. She must really like him.

It was a long day at school today, everything seemed to be going by slowly. When we got home I went straight up to my room and took a nap. When dinner was ready mom called me down and I ate the meal at the table with them. It was 8:30 now and the sun was almost all the way down. I was sitting in a lawn chair in our back yard, around the fireplace...only there was no fire.

I heard the sliding door open and saw a shadow of curls, barely aluminated from the light of the house.

"What are you doing out here?" Harry said, sitting down in the chair next to me.

"Just relaxing.. I had a long day." I replied.

"Are you alright with Sammy and Jacob together?" he asked, uncertainly.

"Yeah, if they're happy I'll be happy." I said. "The surprising thing is, though, Jacob spoke up to me about disliking him."

"He did?" Harry said surprised. "When?"

"At lunch, before you showed up. Sammy went to the bathroom and he told me that he's nothing like Adam and he doesn't want me to join him for his brothers actions."

"You really shouldn't.."

"Yeah..I know." I said sighing.

"Well, I had a good day!" Harry said, happily. "The school year's almost over!"

"Then I'll have to go next year without you." I added.

"Aww, you'll be fine." he said with a smile.

"Someone might beat me up."

"Nobody's gonna beat you up," he said chuckling softly, "besides, I'll be here still."

"Good, you can't leave me."

"I'll be right beside you."

Harry pulled me closer, swirling his fingers around my hair as he kissed me passionately. My hands looped around his neck and we kissed in the dark. . . . .
