"Just one more box" I said to myself setting down the last box in my and my brothers new apartment. "Are you gonna come job hunting with me?" My brother yelled as I fixed up my room a little bit. "Uh, yeah, I guess" I yelled back and grabbed my jacket. It's a lot colder up here then back in Texas.
We went outside and we started to walk around the city. "What about there?" I asked, pointing at different stores for Adam to apply too. "That literally looks like the lamest place to work" He replied. "Hey, money is money" I laughed. "Hey, what about there?" I say, pointing at a record shop. "Actually doesn't look to bad" He spoke hopeful as we both walk in. It was beautiful. Records and CD's everywhere. We both saw a girl that looked like she worked here. Adam walked up to her, talking to her. I began looking through records, finding my favorites.
"Tayler, I think I'm gonna work here" I heard Adam speak up. "Oh yeah?" I asked sarcastically as I walked up to him and the girl. She smiled. I smiled but I didn't say anything. "It's okay, it's just a smile. It's normal, I promise it's normal." I thought to myself. "Hi, my names Dean" She put her hand out in front of me. "Oh god, she's talking to me. Dean? That's a bad ass name. Hmm. Fuck, she wants to shake my hand." I thought to myself. I smiled and I grabbed her hand awkwardly, greeting her. "I'm Tayler" I spoke. "Come on Tayler, no need to be awkward." Adam spoke up, punching my arm a little. I let go of her hand quickly. "Uh- sorry" I said quickly. "I'm gonna go find a book store, I'll call you if I need you" I mumbled. "Hey, there's one down the street. I recommend going there first. Just go looking for Katelynn. She'll hook you up on some good books" Dean spoke up with a smile. I nodded and I made my way outside. I was honestly a bit nervous going anywhere without my brother. I mean, it's just down the street. I need to just relax. Come on, I'm an adult.
I walked down the street to the book store I assumed Dean was talking about. I stared at the front of the place for a second before walking in. I inhaled the smell of books. I guess that sounds strange. I love the smell of books. Wow, okay, that does sound a little strange. My eyes scanned the place as I walked towards an Isle of books. Before I had realized where I was going, I bummed into someone. I looked in front of me. A girl with short curly hair was squatting, picking up her books. "Oh, fuck, I'm sorry!" I mumbled loud enough for her to hear. I helped her pick up her books and she smiled. "It's okay, it happens" she spoke, her voice soft. Her voice intrigued me. It was soothing. "I'm Tayler" I said, immediantly regretting my words. "Hello, Tayler. It was nice to meet you" She mumbled before walking the other way. "What's your name?" I asked, catching up to her. "Katelynn." She mumbled. Her answers were short. Katelynn? The katelynn Dean was telling me about, right? "Dean told me you could recommend some good books for me" I mumbled. "Did she now?" She asked. "Yeah, look, I'm sorry, I'll leave you be." I mumbled awkwardly before walking off. It was probably the wrong Katelynn or I was really bothering the fuck K out of her. Either way, it's a lose lose situation.
I heard her chuckle a bit before I walked back outside. I'd have to come back another time. I started to walk back to where I assumed Adam still was. I opened the door and walked in, taking in the smell again. Adam and Dean were still talking. I walked up to my brother. "So, the job?" I asked. "Most likely" he smiled. "See you tomorrow, Dean?" He asked. She rolled her eyes a bit before cleaning the desk off.
We walked outside and began to explore a little more. "Dude, can we please go watch star wars when we get home?" I asked. "For the millionth time?" He asked. "Of course" I replied. "Fiiiiiine" He complained. He loved Star Wars as much as I did, I'm just way more into it. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Star Wars Is my absolute favorite thing ever. I can't get along with a person who hates it.
We walked around for a while before making our way back to the apartment. "So I might try and go looking for a part time job?" I brought up, hoping Adam wouldn't hate the idea. "I don't want you stressing yourself out to much. It's not good for you, ya know" He replied as he began cooking dinner. "I don't want to put all of the working and money shit on you" I turned my head on to face him. "I don't want you stressing yourself out too much. You have school to worry about. I know you can only handle so much" He reassured me. "Adam, I can handle myself." I raised my voice a little bit. "You could barely pass highschool because of the stress. How do you think you will do in college when you get a job too?" He asked calmly. "Fine.." I mumbled. I mean I guess we do have enough support from mom and dad.
Adam sat next to me with a plate of food. "We will figure out how we will pay for your college, okay? It will be fine" He reassured me, ruffling my hair before digging in his food. I ate my food and I curled up on the couch. I guess he was right. I really didn't handle highschool that well.
