Totes in this city had gone completely black market. The tote mafia had deep pockets, many members and a significant degree of tech expertise too. They were reselling bags for between $20 and $60 each out of the trunk of cars, on the subway, in parking lots - and most recently online. There was more money in totes than guns or drugs (which were now almost completely legal).
It was Henry who alerted me of the tote mafia's online activity.
He sent me an email:

Subject: Watch your back manHey Ari,
Listen, I know you're just trying to help the disorganized and forgetful but the tote mafia have been increasing their activity recently. I had to drive 40 mins out of town to buy canvas totes. They own the market and are making people pay through the nose. And that's not all.
It's fucked up man. They are targeting people with Facebook ads and driving them to a landing page to buy tote bags. The more you buy, the better the deal. But my neighbour did it and had his credit card number stolen too. They charged$ 12,000 worth of electronics to his card at Best Buy. They threaten your life if you report it. But they send you the bags.
I wanna help you man. You're in way over your head. Call me so we can talk.
