Dear Max,
Well, I'm going to have an official step dad soon. Mom just sat me down and let me know that she is engaged to David. I'm happy, I guess. Not really, actually... I don't have to lie to you like I have to lie to her.
David is..okay. He is a war veteran and you can tell with his immense amount of PTSD. He seems tolerant of me, but he doesn't go out of his way to talk or get to know me. Mom says it's because he doesn't know how to be a dad, but I'm not asking him to be a dad. I'm asking him to at least show some interest in the family he's marrying into. I don't think I've ever had a conversation with him longer than five minutes and that scares me knowing he is going to be living under the same roof as me.
He seems to be infatuated with Mom, so that's a good thing I guess. And I can't expect him to replace dad, that's a bar David could never reach, since Dad was the absolute best.
The wedding is being scheduled sometime in October, I think. Mom would love it for you to come.
