Sierra's POV
The day for the masquerade party as come.
Everytime I think about it my heart pounds.
I don't know what to expect."Hun, you can't go to school today... We have a funeral to go to," mum said while I was attempting to get out of bed.
"Oh, okay," I simply said.
To be honest I would much rather go to school than funerals.
I hate seeing people cry, I hate seeing people hurt, I hate funerals in general. What bothers me most is when people wear just black.
I know it's considered 'rude' to wear colorful clothes when it comes to these situations.
But instead of spreading sadness, why can't we spread joy and colours?Part of me doesn't consider black as a sad colour, but another part of me feels like there should be some colour in funerals.
Aren't people sad enough? I mean, colours always bring a smile to people's faces.
Well not everyone...
I remember my fathers funeral, I was so young. I still get flashbacks till this day.
People crying.
People asking me if I'm okay.
People saying he's in a better place. And all I remember is trying to hold back my tears.
He was never there for us but regardless, we still loved him.---
We walked into the hall where the funeral is set.
I saw people crying.
People with their heads down.I saw sadness.
I felt sadness.
Sadness is filled within these people and it makes me feel bad.
But a girl caught my eye.
I sat next to her she looked as if she's my age.She was different.
She was smiling.
Everyone was crying and she was smiling. Her dimples were showing, it made me want to smile.
Everything seemed so cheery for her."Uhm, hi sorry... But if you don't mind me asking, why are you smiling?"
It sounded so weird to ask out loud, but as she turned her head to me, her smile didn't fade a single bit.
"Because Grandpa wouldn't want me to cry, he would want me to smile," she said with her eyes shining.
She had dark brown eyes with gorgeous waves in her brown hair.
"That's actually... Really sweet," I said with a small smile.
"He's always going to be in my heart, but so will his words, he told me to smile no matter the circumstances."
I wish my dad gave me advice like that.
Maybe things would be different.
We can't always have the life we dream of having, but sometimes it frustrates me to have to deal with all this."I'm Sierra by the way," I said quickly.
"I'm Crystal," she said with her eyes still sparkling.
"It's great how you are able to handle this situation, I mean, most people wou-" I said until she cut me off.
"Unfortunately no one believes in smiles during funerals. My family considers me rude due to the fact that I am trying to keep a happy face to live up to my Grandfather's words of wisdom."
She was right.
