I heard a knock on my door. Stirring around, I felt the coldness of the tub against my bare arms. "Go away." I groaned, turning over putting my arm under my cheek trying to go back to sleep.
"Jess." My mom asked through the door.
"No." I groaned again.
"Hunny, why are you in the bathroom?" I heard her ask. Bathroom? My eyes shot open to see the white bath tub.
"I honestly have no idea." I whispered to myself.
"Well why don't you come on out?" I stood up slowly. Once I got to my feet, things became very dizzy. I put my hand up to my forehead, trying to balance myself by placing my hand on the counter top.
"Jess?" I heard my mom ask again. "You alright?"
"Yeah, Im fine." I said, reaching for the door. I opened the door, and walked up to my mom with my hand still on my forehead.
"Oh my god Jess! You're bleeding." She yelled, confusion and concern seeping in through her voice. Bleeding? She must be out of her mind. Turning back around, I looked in the mirror and saw dry blood on the corner of my head.
"Well now I know why my head hurt." I said, lifting my hair up to see the cut, making its way down to my eyebrow.
"What happened?" She asked, putting a bandage on it.
"Well I heard a thump in my room last night, and I thought it was you, but when you didnt answer and I heard another thump, I locked the door. The thump scared the crap out of me, and I ended up falling and hitting my head I guess." I replied, looking down.
"You need to be more careful next time." She laughed.
"Oh ha ha." I laughed looking up at her. She just smiled, and finished putting the bandaid on the cut.
"Are you sure you're alright? You've been acting a bit weird lately." She asked looking at me nervous, a bit scared. I think she wondered if I had actually gone crazy, I had been seeing things, dreaming about Vampires, and hearing random bumps in the night. I shook my head, trying to get my head back into reality,
"Yeah, Im fine. Schools just been really strange and its been making me tired." I admitted.
"Well, you gotta get ready. You need to leave for school in thirty minutes." She said, patting me on my shoulder and walking out of my room. Slowly standing up, I turned around to my mirror.
"Wow, thats actually really bad." I whispered to myself, checking out the cut again. I shook my head and walked over to my closet. "Well, looks like I have to go back to that hellhole called school." I said, getting my outfit out for school. I slipped into my school outfit, and shoved my feet into my sneakers. I threw on some jewlery, threw my hair in a messy ponytail. I was going to paint my nails, but I rememebered I did them a couple days ago, and I thought they were amazingly awesome.
"Jess, time to leave for school!" My mom shouted. I groaned, but grabbed my bag and left my room. I jumped off the last stair and walked into the kitchen, grabbing a piece of toast.
"Im ready." I said, looking at my mom, smiling.
"Well lets get going." She said, grabbing her keys and heading out to the car. I ran to the car with my bag in tow. Jumping in the front seat, I watched as my mom turned the car on, and began driving me to school. I slipped my headphones in my ears, and listened to my music as we passed stop sign after stop light. "When your feeling ain't the same and your body don't want to. But you know gotta let it go cause the party ain't jumpin' like it used to. Even though this might bruise you.Let it burn. Let it burn. Gotta let it burn." I sang along with Usher. My mom turned left, causing me to lean left with the car. Without realizing it, my eyes had set on a shadowy figure on the side of the road. When I realized I was looking at the guy from church, my mouth fell open, and I dropped my ipod. "Jess you dropped your ipod." I heard my mom say, I nodded my head and slowly reached down to grab it. The figure didn't move, but I could see and feel its red eyes on me. They felt like they were burning a hole into my soul.
"Jess!" I heard my best friend Jane yelling. Before I could turn in her direction, Jane popped up in front of my window causing me to jump in surprise. "Hey babe." She smiled, laughing at me.
"Jerk." I stuck my tongue out at her as I got out of the car. "Bye mom, Ill see you after school." I waved at her. She waved back at me, and drove off.
"So Jess, why didn't you answer my call last night? I needed to tell you something very important!!" Jane pouted, hooking her arm with mine.
"Well one, I was alseep, two, I had a nightmare that creeped the fuck out of me, and three, I heard something... or someone... in my bedroom last night, and I jumped and hit my head," I pointed to the now healing cut on my forehead, "and woke up in the bath tub. So what was so important that you had to tell me?" I asked, as we finally go inside the school.
"Well as you know, Daniel is finally single." She started.
"Yes." I put my stuff in my locker, and grabbed my Chemistry book.
"Well... Im going to ask him out." I could hear the excitment in her voice.
"Really?" I asked. Watching her nod her head made me think she had really gotten out of her shy stage. Last year, if anybody talked to her, she would gulp and end up running in the opposite direction. Now, she was the complete opposite. "Im so proud of you!" I said, hugging her. Just then Daniel walked by, and winked at Jane. I nudged her in the stomach, pushing her towards him, "Go, its better now than later." I warned her that he was the most popular guy in school and if she didn't do it now that she wouldn't get a chance later. She glared at me, but gave in and walked up to him.
"Hey Daniel." I heard her say. I pretended to be putting things in my locker, but in reality I was listening in on their conversation.
"Hey Jane."
"So, I was wondering... would you like to hang out sometime?"
"Yeah. I was actually gonna ask, if you and Jess wanted to go on a double date with me and Stephan." I heard him ask. Turning around, I saw him pointing to his friend Stephan which was standing next to him, holding his hands up as if it were a phone and mouthing the words 'call me' in my direction. Jane looked back at me, and began pleading. 'Please?' She mouthed at me. I shook my head no, I didn't want anything to do with Stephan, he was the most obnoxious, the schools biggest asshole, and biggest player.
"We'd love to." I heard her say as she ignored my real answer and turned back to Daniel.
"Great, well see you then." He said, smiling and they walked off, down the hall.
"Really Jane!?" I asked, slamming my locker shut, and storming over to her. "Didn't you hear my real answer!?"
"Oh come on Jess. You know you want to." She laughed, tugging me towards our classroom.
"No I dont. You know how much I hate Stephan."
"Please." She begged as we set our stuff on our table. "I promise if he does one thing, you have my permission to slap him silly and walk out." She said, giving me her best puppy dog eyes. She knew I couldn't say no to them, and thats why she always used them against me.
"Fine, but one thing goes wrong and Im out." I said sitting in my chair and thinking to myself, 'What the fuck did I just get myself into?'
